Dr. Dayna graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in biology and chemistry. She completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University, where she also trained in veterinary acupuncture. Dr. Dayna currently practices at a small animal veterinary hospital in New Mexico. She enjoys water sports and cooking during her free time.

My puppy threw up and his stomach is making loud gurgling noises. He has been eating and drinking and has normal stool, but has been whining and can’t seem to get comfortable to sleep. What should I do?

I am sorry to hear that Clark is so uncomfortable. Vomiting can be caused from dietary changes, intestinal parasites, or even something more serious such as parvovirus or an intestinal emergency such as intussusception. If his discomfort or vomiting continues then I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian as soon as possible. Hi. My dog ate about a spoonful of rice pudding that was cooked with raisins but didn’t digest any actual raisins. Is that a cause for concern?

To my knowledge raisins have to be ingested to have any concerns. However, it has only been in the last 12 years that we have known raisins are problematic to some dogs, and there is still information we don’t know about the toxicity and why some dogs are affected and others aren’t. It is never wrong to have him evaluated by an emergency veterinarian, but I feel the risk is minimal if no raisins were ingested. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

Just wanted to know if I need to take him to a vet to have this removed

Good Morning. This looks like it may be a pustule from a skin infection called puppy pyoderma. If it is the only one I may wait a few days and see if it goes away on its own. My dog was eating and fell on his side then cried. I picked him up and then set him down again to see if he could walk and he walked just fine. Why did he fall? (This is the second time. First time I thought a tool had fallen on him.

Oh goodness. I am sorry to hear that Jonsey is experiencing this . I would be concerned that this could be a type of seizure, or a heart related issue such as an intermittent arrhythmia. Certainly abdominal pain or blood pressure spike could be a possibility as well. This sounds like it could be very serious and I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Hello! My cat has had an amputation surgery of the back leg. After a few days it swelled and the vet drained it. After that holes appeared in the tissue and the vet said it might be from the inner stitches that are holding the muscle and removed them, and stitched the holes. When we finally thought that the wound was healing, holes appeared again, you can see the muscles inside it is very scary. I don't know what is causing these holes. Can you help me? Hi there, and thank you for including the picture as it is helpful. I see the area in question and it looks like a large scab from the incision may have come off. Of course a picture is not as helpful as seeing the wound in person but the underlying tissue looks healthy. This may take several weeks to completely heal and seal closed. I would encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian in the next few days to make sure they don’t have any other concerns. In the meantime keep the area clean by using a clean but moist wash rag to compress the area a few times a day. Best of luck and I hope William continues to heal quickly!
