Biography

I graduated in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Bologna, Italy, in 2003. I moved over to the UK in 2005 and I have been working in small animal practice ever since, focusing mostly in emergency and critical care. I have always been a cat person but my husband brought two English bulldogs to our family that I loved very much and since their passing we have rehomed a stubborn, crazy Basset called Poppy. Poppy is also known as nurse Poppy as she looks after everyone in the household and has special powers where she makes everyone happier. Pets bring so much love and happiness into our life and I feel privileged to be able to help them and their owners.

Does my cat have ringworm

Hi, I would not say this looks like a typical ringworm lesion. The areas are normally hairless round areas but can also become more inflamed and crusty depending on the dermatophyte causing the problem. The active infection can only be confirmed through culture so I would recommend to seek vet attention to put your mind at rest. Hope this helps, thank you for using PetCoach !

I discovered an open wound on my cat's butt. She is an indoor cat. What is it? I also noticed that she hasn't eaten a lot recently, over the past 3 days. I though it was because I gave her catnip and it hit her stomach wrong.

Hi, yes it looks like Precious has a wound. It could be an abscess that has opened and is trying to heal. If this is the case, Precious will require the area to be cleaned thoroughly by your veterinarian and might also need antibiotics. Do you have another cat that might have unwillingly caused this ? My 10 year old basset hound is in heat but the past 3 days her blood flow is a lot heavier than normal. She is acting completely normal and eating normal, but the amount of blood seems worrisome.

Hi, it is probably better to have her checked over. Sometimes it can be secondary to hormonal fluctuations and changes in the uterus over the course of the years. However, best to be on the safer side and have a check up to make sure that she is not becoming anaemic and that the bleeding is not secondary to something else more concerning .

Spot on dog’s stomach

Hi there ! The spot there looks like a possible bacterial infection. If you can’t see any others I would recommend to wash the area with some chlorexidine based disinfectant for dogs. Hope this helps !

I gave my 6 mo old kitten revolution 12 hours ago and he is constantly scratching and gooming right now. I put the product between his shoulder blades but the fur was wet for a bit. Not sure if he could reach the area.

Hi ! Can you still spot presence of fleas ? You should look for flea dirt more than adult fleas, tiny black dots that dissolve when put in contact with water on a white tissue . You can use a flea comb for this purpose and then wipe it on the wet tissue to see if there is any evidence of flea dirt. If you have established that there still are fleas, then it could be that when you applied the product it did not actually reach the skin surface. I would recommend to speak to your veterinarian with regards to an additional product to kill flea eggs and arrange an appointment perhaps with a technician to show you how to best administer this treatment, good luck and I hope everything goes well !
