Biography

Dr. Britni Miller grew up on a small farm in rural Illinois. She graduated from North Central College with a degree in Biology in 2008 and then University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2012. While in school she focused on swine medicine, and after graduation practiced small animal medicine in private practices. She currently lives in Northern Illinois with her husband, 2 sons, 2 dogs (Nemo and Gracee) and 2 cats (Suzy and Rizzo).

My cat (Greebo) is overweight and was recently prescribed a new diet by our Vet. He was eating Urinary S/O because our other cat has kidney problems so they both eat that. Now he is eating a Metabolic diet food to help him lose weight, and he is to eat 44g a day. But now that we have started feeding him this diet, he is constantly meowing for food and trying to eat Sidney’s food (my other cat who has urinary food), even after eating. Is there something wrong? We didn’t overfeed him before.

Greebo is probably just hungry. Even if he wasn’t overfed before he may be feeling the effects of dieting. Make sure he is being fed twice daily. You can also add water to his food in order to bulk it up. One thing that may be extra helpful would be to get interactive toys that dispense food as he plays with them. This will give him exercise as well as a treat reward for playing. You can use his diet food as the treats in the toys. This will keep him entertained as well as give him small bits of food as he plays.

It sounds like Dahlia could have an abscess, root tooth abscess, or some other infection or mass. She should be seen by her veterinarian to be evaluated and receive proper treatment. She may need antibiotics or other medications.

So I noticed that my dogs nose has been bleeding at first I thought it was that some one hit him so I kept him inside however I notice the bleeding through his nose started again so I immediately went online to check out what check out what could be the cause and through observation I came to the realisation that it was canine Ehrlichiosis as he also had spots on his under belly like similar symptom pictures and he has been having problems with ticks as well, what are the treatment options

There can be many causes of a bloody nose in a dog including infection (viral, bacterial, fungal), neoplasia, trauma, etc. If you suspect Ente has Ehrlichiosis he should see a veterinarian to be examined, have a blood test to confirm that he has it, and then be put on antibiotics. Ehrlichiosis is a bacterium that is transferred via tick bites and there is no other treatment other than antibiotics. The diagnosis needs to be confirmed so that he is put on appropriate antibiotics and because it needs to be established that this is the cause of his bloody nose.

Hello，my cat had a deworm pill ( milbemax 2kg plus) last night, after that she started to have wet poop not watery, just a little too soft than normal poop, the smell are quite strong, is this normal? What should I do ? Thanks

This can be a normal response to the deworming pill. I recommend giving a bland diet for a couple days such as boiled chicken, scrambled eggs, or low fat cottage cheese. If it continues after a couple days, or he stops eating/drinking, Meow should be seen by a veterinarian in the case he needs medical treatment/care.

My dog wont eat ive tried several types of food and he still wont est

That is frustrating. Some dogs are very picky eaters. Trying different brands and different flavors is the first thing to do. One thing I've found to be helpful for my picky eater patients is a food that has 'meaty pieces'. Purina ONE and Purina ProPlan both have options with this. Other things you can try are adding warm water to the kibble, mixing canned food with the kibble, making a gravy with canned food to pour over the kibble, adding low sodium chicken/beef broth, getting chicken/turkey/beef baby food and mixing it with the food or making a gravy to pour on the food. If none of these help, I would recommend taking Champ to see his vet to ensure that there is a not a medical reason why he isn't eating well, such as Addison's, a bad tooth, etc.
