Biography

I have practiced small animal medicine in a general practice for many years. Currently I have a Canine Rehabilitation practice where we treat orthopedic problems such as cruciate injuries, hip dysplasia, arthritis and do post operative rehabilitation. We also do pain management and conditioning for senior and geriatric patients. Another facet of my practice is helping patients recover from neurologic problems such as intervertebral disc disease, trauma or fibrocartilaginous embolisms. I love helping pets live long and comfortable lives.

Is it safe to vaccinate puppy at home by house call veterinarian?

Yes, using a house call veterinarian is a good idea now especially since neither you or your puppies will be exposed to many people or other dogs. My dog has a weird growth/mass on his back left leg/ paw; not sure what this can be...it seems like it developed over night. It’s not hurting him any idea?

From the photo this looks like either a fluid filled cyst or a mass. If it were an infection it would be painful and inflamed. I recommend a veterinary exam to feel this and perhaps insert a needle in it to look at the cells. From those they can tell you what it is and if it should be removed. I accidentally exposed my puppy to flea and tick shampoo (brand: Naturel Promise Flick!). It was on her body for about 10-15 seconds before we realized and washed it off immediately. We then washed her with a regular shampoo and rinsed that thoroughly. We wanted to know if this was too brief to be a concerning exposure. She is about 2.3 lbs. It’s only been about 10 minutes and we dont see any symptoms yet.

Since you washed it off right away she should be fine. Just to be sure I would keep a close eye on her for the next day or so. Yorkies are prone to hypoglycemia so please make sure she has many small meals daily until she’s bigger. Thanks for using PetCoach to help you care for Remy.

Hi. Two days ago we noticed the tip of my dogs ear looked cut, black and crusty. It goes deeper than just a scratch. We didn’t notice her injure it, this just happened randomly. I have attached photos, but in the photos they look slightly slimy because we were told to put neosporin on it. I just want to make sure we don’t need a vet visit for something more serious.

From the photo it looks like an injury to the ear tip. These often bleed and the scab would make it look black and crusty. It should heal fine without treatment other than what your are doing by applying the antibiotic ointment. Warning gross poop pics! My dogs poop was very goopy/slimy tonight and I'm wondering if this is any indication of intestinal parasites?

Yes this can be from intestinal parasites, but also from bowel irritation from eating things, or stress causing gastrointestinal inflammation.
