I am a 1990 graduate of Washington and Jefferson College with a bachelor's degree in Biology and a 1994 graduate of The Ohio State University School of Veterinary Medicine. I have worked as a small animal private practitioner, an emergency clinician and now am the sole surgeon at a high volume spay and neuter clinic. Please ask me about feline and canine preventive medicine, internal medicine, surgery, behavioral issues, nutrition, and products. I enjoy client education and am happy to help ease a pet owner's concerns.

My aunt left on a cruise yesterday. I am watching her female 8 month old dog (she is large) a few weeks ago I noticed little bumps on her inside ear area, asked about it but she said it was garden thorns? I also noticed some little marks on her undercarriage. Today was my first full day watching her letting her out etc. and i noticed the undercarriage spots look worse. The pup is not acting stressed or scratching. But I don’t like how it looks. Side note she is in heat.

Hello. This looks pretty typical for an allergic dermatitis that has lead to a skin infection. Ideally, this should be addressed by your veterinarian. They can discuss possible causes (food allergy, contact allergy, flea allergy, etc) and prescribe medications which may include antibiotics for the raised lesions and allergy therapies.

Hi my dog is Laika Lago she have now 4 months and abril 1 2023 I see you and petco for vaccine but I don’t not where is the proof for housing ? You can send me please she have appointments that Saturday with you again but ineed the prof the firs vaccine thanks

If you need proof of vaccination, you should contact the clinic that saw your pet directly. They may have sent information about each visit that your puppy has been to at the clinic to your email. If you need documentation- visit the clinic that examined and vaccinated your puppy. Thank you

I have a 6 year old oit bull...this started off as looking like a small blood blister and has grown into this...it doesnt seem to hurt her and her appetite has not decreased. Is there anything i could put on it to dry it out or give her pencillin shots? Or does she need medical attention for it

Hello and thank you for using Petcoach. This is a mass/ tumor that has broken open. It may be benign or cancerous and the only way to know which is to send it off for analysis. This growth should be surgically removed as it runs the risk of being a chronic source of infection since it has ruptured. Your veterinarian can send it off for analysis once it is removed. My dog was neutered on 7/6/22 and I’ve caught him licking a few times the past two days and now I’m worried. He was wearing like a full body suit, no cone, but I discovered he could still reach his incision. I’ve attached photos. I think the dark black/red spot is stitches but now I’m nervous it may be infected or something more. Don’t know if I should take him in to get check or not. He’s acting completely normal, is eating fine so doesn’t seem to be bothering him too much.

It looks like he caused some mild bleeding while licking and a scab has formed. It is important to prevent him from continuing to traumatize the area or he may open the incision or cause an infection. If the suit is not adequate, you should get a “cone” ASAP and keep it on at all times until the area is healed. Thank you for using Petcoach

Our lab is 10 days post neuter. We are worried about his incision site, whether it is scabbing or infection. He is his normal happy wild self but we just need the peace of mind knowing he’s good or if we need to call the vet. Thank you.

Hello. This incision looks very good. It does not appear to be infected or inflamed in any way. That crusty appearance is normal with healing and scab formation. Continue to monitor the area for one more week and everything should be well healed by then. Thank you for using Petcoach
