How to Make a Dog Cookie Mix-in-a-Jar

No holiday is complete without delicious baked goods. Baking is a fun way to spend time with family and friends, and of course our pets, too!

This DIY dog cookie mix-in-a-jar is a festive and thoughtful way to gift those dog pet parents in your life, so they can treat their special pup.

Layer one ingredient at a time into a large mason jar starting off with whole wheat flour. Next, layer in the unbleached flour, cornmeal, and finish off with rolled oats.

Once you’ve layered the ingredients, polish the mason jar off with a festive piece of fabric, cookie cutter and gift tag. On the other side of the gift tag, be sure to include the directions for the pet parent to prepare and bake the cookies. See below for the complete recipe and instructions.

Supplies

  • Large mason jar
  • Twine/ribbon
  • Bone cookie cutter
  • Large gift tag
  • Small piece of fabric

Cookie Dry Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups whole wheat flour
  • ¾ cups unbleached flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • ¾ cup rolled oats

Gift Tag Complete Recipe and Directions

Ingredients Needed

  • 1 ½ cups water
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 medium eggs
  • ¼ cup natural crunchy peanut butter (make sure there’s no xylitol in the ingredients)
  • 2 tablespoons vanilla extract

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Combine dry ingredients into large bowl. In a medium bowl, combine wet ingredients. Pour wet mixture into dry ingredients and beat with electric mixer until smooth. Roll dough into ball on sheet of floured wax paper. Cut dough with cookie cutter and bake for 20 minutes. Turn off heat, but don’t open the door for one hour. Bone-appetit!
