I have a bearded dragon who is male and is 2 years 10 months old. Since the past week to two he hasn't been going to the toilet as often as he used to. His general mood hasn't changed and he still has a great appetite.

Hi and thanks for using PetCoach! Sorry to hear that Nero is having a potential problem. It may be time to re evaluate your husbandry program to ensure that you are doing everything right from housing, conditions, diet, etc. Here's two great links for their care and husbandry http://www.anapsid.org/bearded.html http://www.reptilesmagazine.com/Lizard-Species/Bearded-Dragon/ A few common reasons for constipation include chronic dehydration and poor gut motility due to low calcium levels. These links should help you get back on track. 10 min water soaks once daily may also help including adding calcium to his diet. I hope these help you resolve the problem. I wish you good luck.

My cat was prescribed antibiotics for diarrhea and today was his second day of taking them. He’s required to take 0.5 mL of the antibiotic and another one after 12 hours (twice a day). Today, he lost his appetite (only ate a few treats) and threw up clear liquid twice and clear yellow liquid 3 times. He is also lethargic.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I'm sorry to hear that Leo is having this problem. Many antibiotics cause gastrointestinal issues in cats so you will need to call your vet and let them know what is going on. Most likely they will have you stop one or both of the antibiotics and prescribe something different. I would also suggest that you put him on a pre/probiotic while he is taking antibiotics and then continue for at least one week after the antibiotics have been stopped. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

My dog, a 6 month old husky shepherd lab mix, ate a wooden knob off of my nightstand and I believe she chewed it and swallowed it. The screw fell back into the drawer itself (thank god) but I cannot locate the knob so I believe she ate it. She seems completely normal. No loss in appetite, normal behavior, no vomiting. Should I take her to a vet? She’s still super chipper and acting like a puppy. I don’t know how long it has been missing either. (Had to have been a day maybe two)

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Ellie! Oh no, that's not good, but it is good she didn't eat the screw. Given that you think it may have been a day or two since she ate it, and because she is acting normally, I'd just keep an eye on her for now. If she starts vomiting, stops eating or has a loss of appetite, has diarrhea, blood in her poop, starts acting lethargic, and/or has any other concerning behavior, then I would take her into the vet right away. I would monitor her over the next week to be safe. I hope this helps!

My dog had an anal gland that burst about 2-3 weeks ago. I took her to the vet and they drained it, I gave her a full round of antibiotics and pain medication and she wore a cone. It’s been almost 3 weeks now, the area is fully healed but each time I take the cone off, she licks random parts of her back and legs until they bleed. Can this be a lingering side effect from the meds she finished about 2 weeks ago? She has never done this until after this incident. Appetite and energy are normal.

That's not a typical side effect of giving an antibiotic, but it is possible that Brooke is still experiencing some pain related to the anal glands, and so she is licking to relieve it. It's also possible there is another issue, such as irritation on the legs, that are causing her to want to lick and chew. If you haven't already, I would schedule a recheck with your veterinarian to make sure the anal glands are healed up and to look for any other issues such as pain in the legs or around the anus, allergies, parasites, etc that may be causing her to lick. In the meantime, keeping the Elizabethan collar on may help. There are also no-lick wraps that can be placed on the legs that may help deter licking if there is no injury (once you've gotten the OK from your vet). Distraction through a puzzle or chew toy such as a Kong stuffed with treats or food may also help redirect this behavior into something more positive if it's stress or habit-related instead.

My cat started having diarrhea yesterday which most likely happened do to new cat food (which she has tried before&didn't have any issue). Today, I decided to give her her old food because she continues to have diarrhea(wet&runny) & scoots same as yesterday. There aren't any other symptoms like vomiting, only that she has a smaller appetite. Right after pooping today at night, I noticed she has blood around her anus, there isn't any blood on her poop tho. Is this urgent? Should we go to the vet?

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Elsa and for providing a picture, it's very helpful. Poor girl, you are correct that a sudden change in diet can cause diarrhea. Continuing diarrhea as well as scooting can cause the anus to be quite irritated and that may be the cause of the blood. She sounds pretty uncomfortable if she is scooting, and she is also showing she feels badly if her appetite is low. Given she has had diarrhea for over 24 hours, I do think seeing the vet is best. I do not think it's an emergency, so do not rush her to an ER vet tonight unless she stops eating, stops drinking, starts vomiting, and/or becomes very lethargic. Wait until the morning and if she is still having diarrhea then, I'd have her see the vet. I hope this helps!

I have a very senior cat (19), who is in Stage 3 kidney disease. She also takes a thyroid pill. She has never been willing to eat a prescriptive diet, she loves regular canned food, but in her old age won't eat the same flavor two times in a row. She's doing well with poo, pee, engaging with us, grooming - she enjoys life. What can I do to help her gain some weight. She only weighs about 8.5 lbs now. As she has aged she has continued to drop weight.

hHello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I'm sorry that Cuddles that is having this issue. Weight loss is very difficult to manage in a cat with advanced kidney disease especially if the cat will not eat the prescription diet. The weight loss is typically muscle wasting. The prescription diets are restrictive in phosphorus which is essential in keeping kidney damage to a minimum. These diets also have a reduced sodium content to prevent dehydration, are high in specific amino acids to promote muscle mass and contain other ingredients, like omega-3 fatty acids, that support kidney health. Being picky about the diet is common as they are often nauseous due to toxin build up in their blood from the kidneys not filtering properly. You should talk to your vet about using Cerenia or Zofran for this issue to see if it helps. She may also need an appetite stimulant drug either mirtazapine or Entyce. Please talk to your vet about these. The only way for her to gain weight is to eat better. I don't know if you are aware but there are many companies that make prescription kidney diets. If she won't eat one brand she may eat one of the others. I suggest you try different ones. If purchased from your vet, if your cat does not eat it, the pet food company will typically take the food back and refund your money so you are not out the money of trying the food. In my experience, cats tend to like the Royal Canin kidney prescription diets the best but Hill's, Purina and Blue Buffalo also have them. You can try this supplement to help her eliminate phosphorus absorption from her GI tract to help alleviate the strain on the kidneys especially if she will not eat the prescription diet. This would be an adjunct will is not specific for weight gain. Again, the only way to get her gain weight is to get her to eat more (manage nausea and give an appetite stimulant).
