Hello. I have a 5yr old Sulcata Tortoise. I recently discovered him upside down in his enclosure and it appeared that he spiked himself. I went and soaked him and was putting eye drops in his eyes. Then I heard him start wheezing. He's currently crawling around his enclosure and drinking normally. I just noticed this wheezing. It sounds like a tiny whistle through his nostrils. What could it be?

If he was upside down for an extended period of time, his internal organs may have compressed his lungs. This can cause inflammation. Luckily, you discovered him because it can also cause suffocation and death. You can choose to monitor him to see if the wheeze resolves. If not, or if he becomes lethargic, loses his appetite or develops nasal discharge then he should be examined by your herp veterinarian.

My cat is having trouble passing a turd... He keeps producing small amounts of this brown mucous on the pee pad I have in front of the litter box, but hasn't been able to completely eliminate the actual piece. He's eating normally & drinking plenty of water, & he's at a healthy weight. Seeing your vet ASAP is definitely a good idea to make sure there isn't an impaction causing the severe constipation that may need an enema or stool softeners to resolve. In the meantime, you can try offering a little bland yogurt to try and help the soften the stool, as well as make sure he's drinking plenty of water by mixing some into his food, but if Booboo is in severe distress, hasn't passed any stool at all, or is having other symptoms such as abdominal pain or stops eating, you should seek out veterinary care from your vet or a local ER clinic immediately.

Romeo was sick on Friday night and Saturday with vomiting so he did not feel like eating or drinking much during the time. He ate his fist meal and drank some water at 5 am this morning. If he's been vomiting and not drinking much, yes it is possible that he's a bit dehydrated. His urine in the picture does look a bit yellow, but if he is now drinking water and feel better, I expect he will become hydrated again in due course. It's fine to increase his water intake, and you could add some gently warmed, low sodium chicken broth to his food to help with increasing his fluid intake. I hope this helps.

we may be adopting a two-year-old labrador from the shelter. He has a birth defect having been born with one eye we believe it may be called Microphthalmia. Is this doggy in any pain he doesn’t seem to even be aware of it, but we would like to know if he is suffering from this at all and long term treatment He’s the best boy. Thanks

Oh my goodness, he is the cutest boy! I can see why you say he's the best boy. It could be that he does have microphthalmia, that one eye is much smaller than the other. The condition itself isn't painful, but it can lead to things such as glaucoma, which is painful. Cataracts can also be another complication of this genetic condition. I would recommend having him seen by a vet yearly to make sure there aren't any complications developing such as cataracts or glaucoma, but that shouldn't stop you from adopting him. Hello, my 22 lbs Boston Terrier recently defecated an odd black color. He eats a mixture of fresh and baked dog food and no supplements other than Ocu-Glow for his cataracts. He is 10 years old. He occasionally eats food off the floor but I have not noticed anything recent and he has NO change in behavior. Here is an attached picture. Darker stools like this can be due to a number of things. If Milo recently ate something off the floor or had some minor digestive upset, it may cause a darkened stool. Eating a lot of leafy greens like spinach can also darken the stool. In some cases, dark or tarry stools can indicate issues such as GI bleeds in the stomach or intestines, or more severe intestinal irritation. If this has happened only once, I would continue to monitor Milo at home for any other signs of a problem such as a painful tummy, vomiting, not wanting to eat, etc. If you see those symptoms, the dark stools continue or worsen, or you notice anything else ongoing, then it's time to see your vet.

Hi there! Excessive tearing of the eyes can be due to a number of things, including spring allergies (dust, grasses, pollens), eye irritants, or eye injuries/infections (these usually come with green, yellow, or cloudy discharge, rather than clear mucus). If you suspect allergies or irritation, you can try an over the counter medication such as Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to see if it helps reduce symptoms. However, if the eye discharge continues, worsens, becomes bothersome to Bella, or becomes cloudy or discolored, it's best to have your vet take a look in person. I would also stop the eye washes for a while and just gently clean any debris or mucus away with a warm, clean washcloth to see if that helps reduce irritation and tear production as the washes may just be exacerbating the issue.

My dog was recently brought to the hospital to throw up raisin chocolate and the week following he had really bad diarrhea so they put him on antibiotics. His condition is improving and he’s starting to make better more solid stool but he refuses to drink water. Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I'm sorry to hear that Iggy has had all these issues. It is best to start transitioning him back to his regular food now. I recommend just putting a handful of kibble in with the chicken and rice and just gradually increase the amount of kibble at each feeding (and reduce the amount of chicken and rice) until he is back on straight kibble. This should take 5-7 days. I would also recommend giving him prebiotics/probiotics (I recommend Fortiflora Pro) and use it daily until the stools have been completely normal for at least one week. Not only did the induction of vomiting change the normal flora of his stomach but also the addition of the antibiotics probably did more to harm the GI biome. Antibiotics kill both good and bad bacteria. Fortflora is easy to use - one packet on his food once daily. It is a powder and is very palatable. Each box of Fortiflora has 30 packets so you will have a month's supply.
