Hello i own an adult bearded dragon and my reptile hasnt been pooping i have tried apple sauce and he still has not pooped in 24 hours and am worried he might have impaction but cannot afford the vet bill right now i just want to know if you know any solutions to help him i have also gave him a warm bath but i dont know if i should give him one everyday especially since its winter time anything helps thank you

Hi! Since Gronk has not defecated in 24 hours, I think it’s fine to keep trying with warm water soaking 1 - 2 times a day for 10-15 minutes. Make sure you supervise him during the soaks and if he still wants to eat, I would decrease what you offer him until he does defecate. If he usually defecates daily, but still hasn’t defecated after 3-5 days with normal appetite, has any vomiting, change in attitude, activity or appetite, then I do think an examination by a veterinarian is the best thing for him. They can also give an enema or take a radiograph (X-ray) to see if there is a problem inside. Sometimes, some mild dehydration slows down the process and they just need a little boost of fluid to help move things along. So keep going with soaking for now. I hope that does the trick! My 3 year old long haired tuxedo female pees just fine in the litter box, but she preferred to poop on the bathroom rug or on the carpet behind the sofa. Then, she will go weeks and everything is fine only start pooping outside the box again. I have 4 litter boxes and 3 cats. I clean all several times a day. She is the youngest. A good first step, if you haven't already, is to rule out any health issues with your vet such as arthritis that may be causing the accidents. Secondly, making sure none of the other cats are bullying her away from the litter box may also alert you to any issues. Thirdly, a good enzymatic cleaner may help reduce the smell/discourage use of these areas in the future. That said, if you've done the above and the issue is still happening, it's probably time to call in a veterinary or animal behaviorist that can visit in person to see what may be going on. They may be able to check for stressors that could be causing the accidents where they are, look for issues with refusal to defecate in the box, or see if there is a cycle that is happening that is triggering this reaction. From there they may be able to set up a more tailored plan to help reduce the accidents and encourage use of the litter box at all times. Romeo has been on GI Wet Food Low Fat by Royal Canine. Since being on this food, hes only pooping once a day. He normally poops twice a day prior. He is fine otherwise. Is this normal? Thank you

My cat has signs of gingivitis. Will it hurt her if I start to brush her teeth? She had a teeth cleaning with the vet last year, but her gums are already a little red and slightly inflamed again. I hate the idea of putting her under anaesthesia unnecessarily, so can I try to do something at home? I’ve tried gels and plaque off, neither seem to keep it at bay. She eats dry food only and seems to have no pain or issues eating (she’s very healthy otherwise) Thank you!

Be sure to use a pet toothpaste, as human ones are toxic for cats. You can get a pet toothbrush and paste at a pet store. I'd brush her teeth three times a week. I hope this helps!

My 16-year-old cat has stopped grooming herself and now has several small lumps of matted hair on her back, which I'm not able to brush out without seemingly hurting her. Should I get her shaved? Thank you!

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Lily. Poor girl! Yes I would get those matts shaved out, they will be painful to her. I'd also recommend having her seen by a vet. She's stopped grooming herself for a reason, and it could be it's painful for her to groom. Arthritis is common in senior cats. A chronic illness, such as diabetes and kidney disease, could sap a cat's energy and lead them to not grooming. Both of those are common in senior cats. I recommend having her seen by a vet this week, and getting her a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis. I hope this helps!

Hello, my 22 lbs Boston Terrier recently defecated an odd black color. He eats a mixture of fresh and baked dog food and no supplements other than Ocu-Glow for his cataracts. He is 10 years old. He occasionally eats food off the floor but I have not noticed anything recent and he has NO change in behavior. Here is an attached picture. If you could please share your expert opinion on what the cause may be and if he needs immediate treatment, I would appreciate that.

Darker stools like this can be due to a number of things. If Milo recently ate something off the floor or had some minor digestive upset, it may cause a darkened stool. Eating a lot of leafy greens like spinach can also darken the stool. In some cases, dark or tarry stools can indicate issues such as GI bleeds in the stomach or intestines, or more severe intestinal irritation. If this has happened only once, I would continue to monitor Milo at home for any other signs of a problem such as a painful tummy, vomiting, not wanting to eat, etc. If you see those symptoms, the dark stools continue or worsen, or you notice anything else ongoing, then it's time to see your vet.

Hello. My dog eye keeps tearing at time there is mucus. I purchased eye wash have been using it for almost a week and still has the issue.

Hi there! Excessive tearing of the eyes can be due to a number of things, including spring allergies (dust, grasses, pollens), eye irritants, or eye injuries/infections (these usually come with green, yellow, or cloudy discharge, rather than clear mucus). If you suspect allergies or irritation, you can try an over the counter medication such as Benadryl (diphenhydramine) to see if it helps reduce symptoms. However, if the eye discharge continues, worsens, becomes bothersome to Bella, or becomes cloudy or discolored, it's best to have your vet take a look in person. I would also stop the eye washes for a while and just gently clean any debris or mucus away with a warm, clean washcloth to see if that helps reduce irritation and tear production as the washes may just be exacerbating the issue.
