My 2 yr old Doberman has been bleeding from his penis for 4 days. Day 1 had a lot of bleeding, Day 2 mild Day 3 a lot Day 4 small amounts. He has been to see the vet on day 1,2&3. Ruled out urinary problems and diagnosed with over exerting himself trying to breed with our female (even though he is fixed), as the blood is coming from his prepuce and the soft tissue is swollen there. We were told to wait it out & that it would heal in a few days. Does this sound right? We’re worried for him.

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. I am concerned that he continuing to bleed. A clot should have formed by now unless the trauma is too much or he has a bleeding disorder. With him being a doberman, I would strongly suggest checking him for any bleeding disorder such as von willebrand disease. Your vet can test for this with a specific test. I would also check general blood work and potentially sedate him and check the area out more. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. The sooner he is seen the better.
