I'm getting Some pedigree kittens, one Siamese, one Sphinx, one Bengal and one Maine coon, I want to make sure they have the correct and the best diet. I know some expensive brands sell complete cat food for individual breeds, is this worthwhile or simply a waste of money? Would they benefit from a premium complete cat food regardless of breed? What brands would you recommend? I'd like to keep them on dry food. Thank you in advance

Congrats on your new kitties! Given that you have a variety of cats, I would get a high quality cat food as opposed to brands for specific breeds. While I do feel that foods for breeds are worthwhile, it's hard to make sure each cat eats their brand specific food when you have a variety of cats. I feel the food for brands are worthwhile because I do find they tailor to the breed's specific need. Royal Canin Persian, for example, have a specially shaped kibble that makes it easier for Persian cats to pick up with their mouth. Persian cats can have a different shaped mouth due to the shortened nasal passages, and I have found my own Persian had trouble picking up cat food. The Royal Canin Persian was very easy for my cat to eat, and I feed him that. In terms of brands, I recommend Royal Canin kitten food. Other good brands include Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams.

The individual breed diets have been tailored specifically to reduce and prevent issues prevalent among each breed but it should be sufficient to feed a premium kitten food and monitor each cat closely for evidence of individual needs as they develop, royal canin and hills vet essentials are two quality brands with good palatability
