I have a 14 and a half year old cocker poo who has very bad dental disease and needs extractions. He also has early stage kidney disease. His vet suggested not to do the dental work because of his age and kidney disease. From my understanding thought dental disease can cause kidney disease in older dogs. So my question is, would it be better to do the dental work and remove the rotten teeth or just give him the recommended supplements to slow down the kidney disease.

Thank you for contacting Petcoach with your question about Buddy. My concern about his bad teeth is that they can become very painful causing him to have a loss of appetite. Without seeing him in person, I can't say what his anesthetic risk is, but if it's not bad, I would recommend having the dental work done. Have him seen by another vet for a second opinion. Best of luck.
