I have a 8 yr patterjack terrier. 3 days after his usual pack walk he began drooling gagging hacking and we called the emergency vet who said it’s most likely kennel cough. That was 7 days ago. We kept him warm, he slept a lot, ate little bits. The worst symptoms abated. He’s perked up now, eating usual and feisty for short spurts then rests for longer. Indoor gentle play. The problem is he’s gulping and swallowing a lot still , constantly and sticking his tongue in and out. Ride it out or vet?

With his consistent symptoms, I recommend having him seen by the vet. There are many causes of respiratory symptoms, including heart disease, and I’m a bit concerned about his decreased exercise tolerance. Cantona may need medication to manage what’s driving his symptoms. Your vet will likely recommend chest x-rays to different a respiratory problem from a heart problem. Hope this helps!
