My large breed dog has an infected anal gland and I can't afford the vet. It has one small hole where it is draining, and I've been doing salt water compresses twice a day. It was getting better and smaller, but then we got some tainted food and his diarrhea swelled it up again. What else can I do but try to fix his stool consistency?

You can try to add rice or bran to his diet. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. Hibiscrub water solution (1:10) can be used to wash the area and keep it clean. Filtabac can be then applied on dry skin.
