We have a 2yr old golden retriever who has been foaming at the mouth slightly, while playing. She seems to realize that its happening, she stops playing and starts licking her lips/opening her mouth. She also is startled and lays down near me. She is healthy otherwise-eating, drinking, bathroom habits all normal. Also, 3wks ago she was running up the stairs chasing me and stopped midway, not sure if she lost her balance. I know this is vague maybe an ear infection? Tooth issues? Mini seizures??

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Rylee. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. She seems to be experiencing a variety of symptoms and would benefit from a thorough examination. Some dogs will foam at the mouth if they play too hard. She could be close to overheating. Joint disease could cause her to stop on the stairs. Dental disease and ear infections are additional sources of pain. If it was a small seizure, she most likely would have been non-responsive to you during the episode. The veterinarian will examine her from head to toe and ask you detailed questions regarding the episodes. In the meantime, watch her closely. For example, if she is scratching her ears or shaking her head, this can be a symptom of an infection. Lameness can indicate joint disease. I hope this information helps!
