Mini schnauzer, 6-7 yrs. His entire body & tail completely bald, covered w black skin that smells even after bath. Oddly face & ears are only area with full hair. Previously on oral steroid pills yrs ago for Anemia. Blood levels finally normal. But hair loss & black skin over entire body/tail Never grew back! Face ears full hair. What is cause/cause? Will hair loss black skin continue to be permanent the rest of his life?

Hello. Oliver needs to have some blood work run. While his anemia is better, you need to know his thyroid status, and look closely at results that might indicate the possibility of Cushing's disease. He may also have a significant yeast infection in his skin, possibly brought on by the use of steroids. Please make an appointment with your veterinarian, & if they are unable to diagnose his condition, ask for a referral to a veterinary dermatologist. Good luck & thanks for contacting PetCoach.
