My cat had a bad smell in his mouth for about 6 months, and recently lost a tooth. I took him to the vet and he got bloodwork, and a vaccine, and they showed me that he has other rotting teeth. Even after the tooth felt out there was no decrease in appetite or behaviour. The vet visit was a few days ago. Today he has been drooling, acting lethargic and not eating. He is also seemingly sensitive to touch and is making annoyed noises when I go near his mouth. Is this gum disease or something else?

Hi and thanks for your request. These signs could be due to severe gum inflammation and even infections, with abscesses building up on the dental roots (so sometimes not completely visible. These signs are quite concerning and another check up would be needed as antibiotics may be best given. Multiple dental extractions and cleaning are recommended in these cases.
