My dog Romeo is 8. He had urinalysis done today which showed white and few red blood cells so he’s being treated for UTI. He is on BioMax Amoxicillin twice a day. He started it today. What are some common side effects? I’m hoping he doesn’t have any. When could they start? I’m just concerned about that. Thank you!

I'm sorry to hear that Romeo has a UTI! Amoxicillin is a very common broad-spectrum antibiotic that is commonly used in animals and people. In some individuals, it can cause an upset stomach with vomiting, diarrhea, and/or loss of appetite. For sensitive individuals, this could start after a day or two, but for others, they may have a bit of mildly soft stool near the end of their treatment course. Odds are good that Romeo will be absolutely fine with this medication! It's not a big deal if he has mildly soft stool for a few days. If this happens, just feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken and white rice for a few days before gradually mixing his normal food back in. However, if he refuses to eat or drink, or begins to vomit, stop the amoxicillin and call your vet to discuss switching to a different medication. I hope that everything goes well! https://www.petcoach.co/pet-medication/amoxicillin/
