Hi, My dog has an itching problem that typically seems to come and go, but recently has gotten worse - to the point where she's scratching herself so much that she's breaking skin. I inspected her coat and couldn't find evidence of ticks. We've also recently (within 30 days) applied anti-flea/tick drops. Could this be due to allergies? Or is there the possibility of another underlying health problem? (PS: there are more spots than the one in the photo) Any help would be really appreciated!

Ouch! That definitely looks like an allergic reaction that is trending toward a bacterial infection with the big red welts. I'd have Hazel brought into your vet for an exam of the spots, and antibiotics as needed. In the meantime, keeping her from licking or chewing at the spot with an Elizabethan (cone) collar or T-shirt over the spot is best to avoid allowing more bacteria into the irritation. Food allergies can cause red welts like this along the inner thighs and bellies, as well as environmental allergens. Your vet will likely suggest a general antihistamine/allergy med to try first, unless they suspect a food allergy, in which case a food trial may help as well.
