Ziggy, very small miniature pinscher, has been reverse sneezing off and on for 3 days. We just put down a large area rug, brand new, about 7 days ago. That's the only change. Where I live, there isn't any blooming flowers yet. I just feel so bad for him. Anything I can do? I did a steamy bathroom but it didn't help.

Poor Ziggy! Luckily, reverse sneezing does usually go away on its own, but it can be very uncomfortable as its happening. Keeping him calm when it happens can help clear the irritant with less stress. If you suspect the rug is a cause, I would move it to a room Ziggy can't access and that is well-ventilated, and give it a chance to air out (or give it a good shake outdoors). Cleaning it, if possible, may also help remove any irritants or off-gassing chemicals that could be causing irritation as well. If the reverse sneezing continues, worsens, or doesn't improve even with moving the rug, a vet visit to make sure there isn't anything in the nose causing irritation, or the beginning of allergies, is best.
