My ball python passed away some time last night and I'd like to better understand the reason based on my findings. He had fresh clean water, his tank was cleaned about a month or so prior, and temperatures were correct with both a warm and cool side. He ate a F/T large mouse of the correct size Sunday night and at that time displayed no symptoms. After death his normally all light tan underbelly had a 4" black area about 3" from his anus. I obviously suspect food poisoning of some kind.

Thanks for reaching out about your ball python and am sorry for your loss. I suspect the dark area was feces in the colon observed through the skin. If the body was refrigerated, a veterinary can probably perform a necropsy with the hopes of providing some answers. Good luck.
