Hi! Rocco was running down the driveway today and all of a sudden started limping. It is his right front leg, and it seems like the pain is in his shoulder. When you push his shoulder inwards he cries... Outward is okay though. Is there anything I can do for the pain and swelling/inflammation? I was trying to ice it, but he doesn't like the cold. Is there anything I could give him? I don't want him to be in pain, but I don't want him to injure it more if he can't feel the pain. Ideas? Thanks!

Poor Rocco. I recommend resting him for the next 48 hours. No running, jumping, or playing. Take him out to toilet on a leash, and bring him right back in when he's done. If he still appears painful after this time, then I would take him into the vet for an exam. The vet can diagnose where the pain is coming from, and can dictate a treatment plan for it. He may also benefit from some pain medications, which the vet can prescribe. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to dogs and can be fatal if given.
