My dog has been having diarrhea for a week now and that's all. She doesn't vomit, shes happy, she plays, she drinks water, she doesn't eat her food but eats the boiled chicken and rice. When she eats the chicken and rice her diarrhea kinda turns solid but then the next poop goes liquid. And sometimes the diarrhea has a drop of blood but not all the times. What could be wrong?

Submit a stool sample to your veterinarian to diagnose intestinal parasites or bacterial overgrowth. Withhold all food for 24 hours, then continue with a bland diet. Start with 1 tablespoon of food every hour and gradually increase the amount. Feed bland until the stool is completely normal. Try a different protein source, such as cooked/drained ground beef, cooked/drained ground turkey or cottage cheese. Mix it in equal amounts with plain, cooked white rice. You can add a teaspoon of plain, canned pumpkin (NOT pie filling) to help firm up the stool. A veterinary probiotic (FortiFlora, ProStora, ProViable or Bene-Bac) can also be used. If the diarrhea still persists, consider a physical exam with your veterinarian. Discuss allergy testing, hydrolyzed diets and food elimination trials with your veterinarian. It is possible Mimi has an underlying food allergy which could be responsible for her symptoms.
