The safest bet is to allow a washout period of about two weeks before starting a new medication that affects serotonin levels, such as tramadol or trazodone. However, in some cases the new medication can be started sooner if the need is urgent, under close supervision by your veterinarian. I would recommend talking to your regular vet about this if you are concerned that your dog needs to start the new meds ASAP.
