My dog's IDEXX parasite test results came back with "Eimeria sp. oocysts present. Eimeria is not a parasite of this species. This parasite may be present in the feces as a result of coprophagy (rabbit, avian, or equine feces), and/or predation." He's already been on 27 days of meds and his vet wants him to do more until he's clear of it. I took him to a different vet and they said no treatment is necessary and it should pass from his system with time. Who's right? He has no symptoms.

Eimeria is not a parasite of dogs as previous stated, so treatment is typically not indicated. Infection is usu6self limiting and resolves on it's own in several weeks. It is important to prevent Bentley from eating stool in the yard or during walks or to restrict access to areas containing stool from wild animals to prevent reinfection.
