Hi - My dog has had a hot spot on his front leg for almost a year (since last March). We use an over the counter ointment + a cone and it heals. Once it's healed (and I mean completely healed) we let him out of the cone and he immediately opens it back up. We are so sad and frustrated. I don't want our dog to have to wear a cone the rest of his life! It's not infected - not sure what else to do.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Cooper. I recommend that he sees his veterinarian to discuss longterm management strategies. He could have an allergy to something in his diet, environment or even fleas that is continuing to keep his leg inflamed. He may benefit from a prescription diet trial, an allergy medication such as Apoquel or Cytopoint or prescription flea control. I hope this information helps!
