My cat was diagnosed by his vet and told that he has the beginning stage of kidney failure but the very beginning so it's not horrible. She recommended just changing his diet to a kidney formula diet. I've been giving him Purina Pro Plan Vet Diet Kidney Function dry food. I've noticed that his feces is a very very dark brown, super dry, and skinny looking. I was wondering if this is due to the food he is prescribed or is this a sign his kidney's are getting worse? He drinks plenty of water.

The difference in the stools are likely due to the diet change. Once his system gets used to the food they may normalize. The stool change doesn't have anything to do with the kidneys worsening or not. If the stools don't normalize I suggest you talk to your vet about this issue.
