Dear Petcoach, We bought a small parrotlet (less than one year) a few days ago. He has arrived in a shipping special bird box from Washington state to Washington DC. We ensured the environment is warm (75 degrees minimum)...he seems to. Eat well even allows to feed him from the hand...but he is sleeping a lot..is it normal because he is so small still or is he stressed because of a 2-day flight? Otherwise he seems healthy just sleepy. What can we do to help him out acclimate faster? ThAnk you.

Thanks for reaching out about Garoshek and including photos. It is not normal for birds to sleep during the day, but it could just be shipping stress.. Any new acquisition should be examined by an avian veterinarian, as a new pet exam. Keep the environment warm, as most parrots are tropical and monitor food/water intake. Good luck.
