My older lab mix girl has had arthritis for 5+ years and seems to be in increasing pain (reluctant to jump & climb stairs; very careful when sitting or lying down). She's been on Glycoflex 3 chews, but I'm concerned she may need prescription painkillers. The problem is, she was also. diagnosed with Cushing's 3 years ago, and my understanding was that NSAIDS and opioids don't mix well with kidney diseases. She is *not* on Vetoryl. Can you advise? Thanks!

Cushing's is not related to kidney disease. Does Zoe have both Cushing's and kidney disease? Steroids are contraindicated with Cushing's but not NSAIDS or opiates. Opiates can be used with kidney disease but NSAIDS can have some adverse effects on the kidneys. It is best to work with your vet regarding this issue since they have all of Zoe's medical history. It is difficult for us to comment without all the information.
