My dogs mother is experiencing kidney failure and the vet mentioned it is possible that her puppies may experience this due to genes. My 3 part question is 1) what preventative measures can i take to ensure a healthy dog 2) is it possible for the Vet to check for this 3) will the check be covered under pet plan insurance ?

I think the best prevention is routine monitoring of bloodwork and urine. Kidney values can be trended yearly. If they start to become abnormal, your vet can recommend diet change and supplementation as needed. If your dog is not sick, bloodwork may not be covered unless you have wellness coverage.
