My dog Bandit is a 10 year old Male Pom, was diagnosed with colitis about 6 weeks ago. Got it to clear up with low fat ID, hills science diet. Still eats this. He got into some people food; a small bit of ham and eggs this morning, and is having a flare up. He went from solid poop earlier today, to soft serve type poop two or three hours ago, to straining to with nothing coming out. He has normal energy, and an appetite. He is on theophylline for a breathing issue. What do I do?

These signs could be compatible with a recurrence of colitis, which is an inflammation of the last part of the colon, usually related to dietary indiscretion. The ''human'' food he had before this am is almost certainly cause it. As a first approach, I would suggest to start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist more than 48hours or you notice vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
