Biography

Originally from South Africa, Dr. Fuhrman is a graduate of Colorado State University’s combined MBA/DVM program. Her veterinary experience includes small animal general and emergency practice, small and large animal anesthesia and pain management, and small animal dentistry. She also has experience working with exotic pets, including birds and reptiles, as well as zoo animals and wildlife. Dr. Fuhrman serves on the Executive Board for the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association and is the Co-Facilitator for their Power of Ten Leadership Academy. Dr. Fuhrman states: "I love that veterinary medicine has allowed me to participate in so many exciting opportunities and experiences. From saving the lives of dogs and cats in a busy small animal emergency practice to teaching veterinary students how to anesthetize small and large animals, to performing surgery on wild African elephants. I have a great passion for animals and for the people who love them. I am deeply connected to the veterinary profession and want to ensure that all pet owners have access to outstanding veterinary care and expertise."

My Lab Skin Have Lots of Dandruff and Death Skin cells I use Liver oil and Soyabean oil on his diet bt no results..

This is a severe skin infection which could be due to mites, bacteria or fungus. Your veterinarian will be able to perform a skin scrape and cytology to determine what is causing the infection and to prescribe appropriate treatment. There is nothing you can do at home to resolve this issue.

Please help my cat has some skin problem which I tried to diagnose by taking him to the vet but he refused. He is not losing fur but skin condition is not normal. So I bathed him with an anti fungal and bacterial shampoo and applied some 3 mix antibiotic cream over his nose. The thing on his tail came off completely. Any idea what he is suffering from? Please give a specific answer

This could be due to a parasitic (lice or mites), fungal (ringworm) or a bacterial infection. Unfortunately, without testing (skin scrape and cytology), there is not way to give a definitive diagnosis or to recommend what treatment would be best. While antifungal and antibacterial shampoos can sometimes be helpful, some infections are more serious and require oral medications to resolve.

I'm fairly certain that she has Miliary Dermatitis because of an allergic reaction to fleas. At first there were no signs of this, but since winter she's progressively lost hair, scratching, licking, and biting herself constantly and now has small scabs all over. She's healing slightly on her back and sides, but her neck and head are still covered scabs that she's constantly scratching open. I've bathed her with flea shampoo and given her flea meds. My dog has been scratching more the past week. When bathing him, I did not see anything alarming like missing fun, but his abdomen was a little red. The following week i noticed a circular soar beneath the side of his ear and cleaned it with peroxide. The next day I applied more advantix. I do not see anymore sores, but I am still worried. Could this be something worse than tics? Also, a month or two ago he had heartworm treatment. He has not been outside as much since then and he sleeps indoors

This looks like an infected skin wound. It is possible that the wound was due to some sort of trauma or it could be because Noah was scratching. Either way, Noah will need oral antibiotics in order for this wound to heal. It is unlikely that any topical treatment alone will help.

My dog suddenly developed these weird bumps. They don’t seem to bother her, but they are noticeable. I don’t know if maybe it’s an allergy or what. She had been taking apoquel but after our recent moved she hasn’t been scratching like she had been. This looks like an allergic reaction. You can try some Benadryl (https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/). However, if this does not resolve the issue then , you will need to take Ellie to the vet as this could be a skin infection that needs a prescription medication.
