This is a severe skin infection which could be due to mites, bacteria or fungus. Your veterinarian will be able to perform a skin scrape and cytology to determine what is causing the infection and to prescribe appropriate treatment. There is nothing you can do at home to resolve this issue.

Poor Tuffy! This looks like a severe case of an bacterial or fungal infection. I would strongly recommend to have him looked at by your vet. Your vet will be able to determine what is causing the severe amount of flakiness and start him on the proper meds to help him feel better. Unfortunately, I do not believe a omega 3 fatty acid is going to resolve this. I hope this helps!
