I am a Veterinary Surgeon with 19 years experience in small animal practice. I live and work in Canterbury, Kent, UK. I have worked as an emergency clinician for the last 14 years. I enjoy all aspects of veterinary anaesthesia and emergency medicine as well as evidence-based medicine. I hold further qualification in veterinary anaesthesia and in emergency and critical care.

Romeo my 13 pound Shih Tzu ate a boneless bbq wing (just one) around noon yesterday. No bones. Small piece of chicken. Maybe a fry or two too. It’s been almost 24 hours without issues. Can it cause consipation by any chance or diarrhea more likely? Romeo hasn’t pooped since last night and usually does in mornings. I have been monitoring him. Thank you

Hello and thank you for contacting PetCoach. This kind of food may cause diarrhea but definitely not constipation. Please, continue to monitor Romeo at home. Most likely he will be fine but if notice any symptoms of abdominal pain, lethargy, lack of appetite or diarrhea, get in touch with your local vets.

I applied rodan and fields unblemish step 3 roughly 3 hours ago. I can still smell it. It was the older formula (ingredients attached)… i believE. There is a new formula ingredients listed on rodan and fields.com as well. My dog managed to quickly lick my face where it was applied. Will he be ok?

Hello and thank you for contacting PetCoach. Timmy may show only mild symptoms of mouth irritation (hypersalivating, excessive gagging, licking lips). This product does not contain any serious toxins for dogs, so Timmy will be fine.

I just noticed a growth on my cats lip area. I’m pretty sure it’s new. Should I be concerned?

Hello and thank you for contacting PetCoach. A lump in this area could be due to local gum / skin infection but it also could be a tumor (benign or malignant). A visit at your local vets is recommended to examine Gabby in full and decide on the treatment plan. Your vet may want to prescribe a course of antibiotics or anti-inflamatory agent first, to treat the inflammatory / infectious process. If this treatments does not help, a needle aspiration or surgical removal of the growth may be necessary.

Hello, my cats are on a mix diet, wet food and kibbles. Is it okay to give their kibbles with some water mixed in at each meal. My female cat tends to eat her kibbles to fast and sometimes throws up so I thought this might help but wanted to make sure it was okay. They eat tiki cat wet food and natural balance LID salomn dry food.

Hello and thank you for contacting PetCoach. It is perfectly fine to soak the kibbles in warm water first. By doing that the kibbles smell stronger and are more attractive to cats. Also, they fill up the stomach quickly, so your cats will feel better after each meal. Also, adding water to kibbles increases general water intake, which is beneficial for health in many cats.

My dog has taken temaril twice daily last 2 days today she very lethargic and shaking. Can I stop the meds

Hello and thank you for contacting PetCoach. Temaril is used primarily for treating allergic skin problems. If Minnie is not showing any symptoms of an allergy (for example itchy skin, ears inflammation, red skin on paws and on the abdomen) but she looks lethargic and unwell, she probably does not need Temaril at the moment. Please, get in touch with your regular vets as soon as they are available to confirm that the tablets should be stopped and to book an appointment for Minnie to make sure she is OK.
