Creating The Perfect Holiday Gifting for Pets at Petco

Spending time with our family – whether biological or chosen – is one of the greatest gifts of the holiday season. And as every pet parent knows, that means time with our furry, scaly and feathered family members, too.

Happily, that’s where Petco comes in – the brand’s yearly exclusive Merry Makings collection offers everything pet parents need to celebrate the holidays with their pets in the most joyful and affordable way possible.

But behind the perfect festive sweater for your dog, or the sparkiest tinsel toy for your cat, what exactly does it take to create a standout holiday assortment?

Petco’s Senior Vice President of Merchandising, Supplies, Owned Brands Product Design & Development, Jenny Wolski knows the perfect recipe for holiday cheer is a mix of three key ingredients:

Creativity, Affordability, and Style

Creativity

Pet parents have grown accustomed to a holiday collection from Petco that they can rely on to be bold, bright and full of festive cheer, and so each year we push the boundaries of creativity to surprise and delight pets and pet-parents alike.

This year we have a broader assortment of toys for dogs, including candy plush, bone and rope toys available in more colors and sizes than ever before for all pups to enjoy. These can be found alongside festive tennis balls that double as ornaments, pre-stuffed stockings and Hanukkah items including jelly donut and menorah rope toys.

And not forgetting our feline friends, we have everything from cat tree sweaters and donut toys to Hanukkah cat fish toys and dreidel teasers as part of our new cat teaser bar – a first for this year. Throw in the new six-foot-tall present cat scratch house that gives kitties the ultimate playground for holiday fun and without doubt Petco is the cat destination for holiday.

Pets can also get cozy with returning bestsellers such as the cabin and dashing slay novelty beds – and this year we added a Petco partner-voted new snow globe bed.

Pet-friendly advent calendars are also a staple at Petco, and this year they are bigger and better than ever. Ranging from toy, treat and chew advent calendars for dogs and toy and treat advent calendars for cats to a special calendar for small companion animals – pet parents can count down the days to Christmas together with their pet family members.

Affordability

When it comes to the holidays, we know that gift-giving can be overwhelming. That’s why we’re making shopping for holiday pet gifts online and in-store as easy and affordable as possible to suit every pet-parent’s budget.

Pet parents can choose their favorite bandana out of 14 new styles from Petco’s new in-store bandana bar for under $5 – perfect for that family holiday card photoshoot!

With 90% of Petco’s holiday collection under $20 there are plenty of stocking stuffers and other affordable finds, and we even have a variety of gifts for under $10, including a tree plush toy, surprise cracker toy and cat nutcracker toy. Small animals such as guinea pigs, bearded dragons and birds can rejoice with offerings made just for them, including a Fairisle sweater, Santa costume and holiday-themed bird toy.

We also know a groomed and healthy pet is a happy pet. Help pets put their best paw forward with a routine veterinary check-up, good dental hygiene via specialized treats or brushing, and supplements that support everything from mental health to skin and coat health. Given the hustle and bustle this season brings and new interactions for pets, it’s critical to keep all vaccinations up to date.

Pet parents can also brush up on pets’ skills with a training session and help them look holiday card camera-ready with a grooming appointment. From Nov. 3 through Dec. 24, 2024, Petco will offer a $29 Holiday Grooming Package that can be added to a full-service bath or groom. This add-on will feature gingerbread-scented shampoo and spritz, moisturizing conditioner, teeth-brushing, nail-buffing and a holiday-themed bandana while supplies last.

Personality

We know that for our pets, putting their best paw forward during the festive season means standing out from the crowd – and Petco knows how to make them look good on the catwalk.

You can get pups in the holiday spirit with a matching “fa-la-la” collar and leash, as well as human treat-inspired dog treats such as pan dulce and peppermint bark. As the months grow colder, ensure pups are kept warm with a puffer jacket such as those from Petco’s lifestyle and fashion brand, Reddy, and give them winter-themed toys such as the snowball plush that comes in two sizes.

Pet parents can twin with their furry friends with matching tree-print pajama pants and pet playsuit; plaid pajamas, pet playsuit and cat cozy coat; and Reddy “bah-humbug” sweater for pets and beanie for humans.

As if that wasn’t enough, we’ve added human gifting too. In addition to a variety of gifts for pet lovers, for pet parents who want to make their pets part of the holiday fun, look no further than the new baking capsule collection featuring a plush toy set, pet/pet parent matching apron and hat, and oven mitt and toy sets.

But wait, there’s more

Eash year our holiday pickle collection is one of the hottest items on our shelves, so we knew this year we had to up the ante. Offering twice as many ever-popular pickle-themed toys as last year, Petco’s icon is back and better than ever, with a new jar of pickle toys, and pickle toy blind box for cats, among other favorites ranging from the naughty pickle toy to the nutcracker pickle toy.

And we’re also adding limited-edition pickle toy drops this holiday season, with fun new variations of seasonal pickle toys to come!

Every Thursday starting on November 14 – National Pickle Day, of course – you can find a new limited-edition pickle, featuring an individual bespoke accessory, online and in stores, including: a turkey-hat and football-jersey clad pickle with a football accessory, Petco shopper pickle with a plush bag accessory, holiday lights pickle with a star plush accessory, holiday baking pickle with a rolling pin plush accessory, and a cheeky Hanukkah pickle with a jelly donut plush accessory to match.
