Choosing the perfect gift for family and friends can often be a challenge. Fortunately, ‘fetching’ the perfect holiday treats and toys for your pup can be just as fun as your average game of, well... fetch. And to make it even easier, Petco has a list of the top 10 holiday gifts for dogs that are fun, affordable, and sure to get their tails a’waggin’!

1. Dog advent calendars

This year we’ve reimagined this classic Petco gift that helps you celebrate the holidays day by day during December. In addition to a dog treat advent calendar, we revamped our dog toy calendar to include MORE play types and each toy is bigger, so this calendar is great for both large and small dogs.  

 

2. Matching human and dog PJs

Whatever the weather, the holidays are the perfect time to snuggle into some jammies, and what better than a matching human and dog set. They are so comfortable, and the new prints are modern and fun, perfect for that holiday Instagram moment.

3. Oversized plush dreidel

Petco has the perfect Hannukah range for dogs this year, too. This dreidel is so squishy and soft and we love how both small and large dogs interact with it. It’s perfect for play time but also a nice item to curl up next to and take a nap.

Hi, our 7 month old puppy just jumped up and ate a chicken drumstick off my child’s plate. We got him to spit out some but not all. He seems okay/normal right now. He has diarrhea a lot (in fact we are testing him for giardia) so I won’t be able to tell if something is wrong off of that. Our vet is on holiday until 2 Jan so we only have an emergency vet as an option. So far I’ve given him bread to help with any fragments. What else should we do or watch for?

Hello. As long as Bandit did not show any indication or irritation or problems swallowing the chicken bone, he should be fine. The bone will most likely soften in his stomach & be digested. Just watch him for the next few days for any signs of digestive distress including vomiting, a loss of appetite, bloating or abdominal pain. Help!!! Our baby just started having different sized pupils today. They dilate outside and inside but unevenly. Vet is closed today due to a holiday, should we take her to an emergency vet? Should I see if it gets better with time? It's been about 3 hours since noticing it. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated!

Hello. There can be multiple reasons or conditions that can result in anisocoria, or uneven pupils in a cat. As long as your cat is acting fundamentally normal & there are no neurological signs, such as incoordination, depression/lethargy, or problems walking or jumping, you most likely can wait for your veterinarian to reopen. My dog was spayed 3 days ago I’m concerned some of her stitches may have opened, tomorrow is a holiday. Do you think this needs immediate attention?

Hi there, I can see that Dolly's incision looks red, a bit inflamed, and slightly opened. It's difficult to evaluate how deep the opening is from a picture, which obviously changes quite a bit though. It looks as if she has been licking the incision. This may cause an infection no matter what, but it may be able to granulate closed on its own if she strictly kept from licking at it. Cones and surgical onesies are my favorite lick deterrents. You can use a warm water washcloth to gently dab the area, but otherwise keep it dry and don't apply any ointments. Most of the time, simple incision infections can wait to be seen by your general practice vet during normal weekday hours. They may prescribe antibiotics, oral or topicals. If Dolly becomes severely painful, uninterested in food, or the incision dramatically changes appearance, those would be reasons to seek emergency veterinary care before your primary vet opens. My dog has had a dry cough for the past four-five days. He dry coughs multiple times and looks like he is trying to throw up but can’t. He did throw up once on Thursday and it was foamy with food in it. After he threw up he was walking around wobbly and had to sleep the rest of the night. He stayed at a kennel over New Years and I am wondering if he could’ve caught something there.

He could have gotten kennel cough while he was boarded, which is not unusual in situations where dogs are kept in fairly close quarters. I recommend getting your dog in to see your vet as he may need a prescription for cough suppressant and/or antibiotics to help him recover more quickly and easily.

Hi! I want to buy the best dry food with protein and the vitamins that my dog needs. Which one do you recommend? What’s the name of it and can you attach a photo of the food please? Hi there! Harley is absoultely adorable! In my opinion, any of the premium brands (Hill’s, Purina, Royal Canin) are great! They are all devloped with veterinary research and focus on providing the most balanced and nutritious diet for pets. Thus, really eliminating the need for a “vitamin” supplement like we take. With that said there are supplements that you can add to Harley’s diet, such as those for joints and coat. Harley’s vet will be the best person to give you dosage and product recommendations (we’re a little limited online, since I have not examined Harley before). I feed my Rhodesian Ridgeback the Purina Pro-Plan Salmon diet, but it really boils down to what Harley likes and what aggrees with her. Sorry it won’t let me post a picture of the food, but any of the brands I mentioned above can be found at your local PetCo. Hope this helps! Happy New Year to you and Harley.
