Weight gain and shape are the best indicators of a Crested gecko being gravid. She will need a moist lay box for her eggs. You can search online for an incubator or search local reptile shows if there are any being held near you. That's already going to be 25% because she's had more than two heats. Keep in mind, 50% of mammary tumors in dogs are malignant. She is eight years old, so she is already at a higher risk of developing cancer simply because she is an older dog. She is also at risk of a pyometra, which is an infection of the uterus that is fatal without treatment. The treatment for a pyometra is spaying the dog, which is an emergency during a pyometra and can cost many thousands of dollars. In all honesty, it's best to spay her. It will keep her from developing a pyometra as well as a pseudopregnancy, and it will keep her from getting pregnant if she accidentally mates. Dogs over the age of six should never have puppies. In my opinion, it's best for her to health to get spayed asap. I hope this helps!

Romeo has been on GI Wet Food Low Fat by Royal Canine. Since being on this food, hes only pooping once a day. He normally poops twice a day prior. He is fine otherwise. Is this normal? Thank you

My Mini Schnauzer Cooper has started scratchong excessively a few weeks ago. Hes always scratched a bit but never like this. Hos neck is raw. Ive tried some moisterizing lotion for dogs thinking it was dry skin. He doesnt have fleas. His diet is stable so i dont think its an allergy. Ive tried to redirect him but tonight he snuck off and ended up doing this. Ill be calling the vet tomorrow but it can take a week to get in there. What can i do in the interim?

Poor Cooper! It sounds like you're already on the right track for ruling out issues, however, environmental allergens can also flare up this time of year which may be causing the excessive itchiness. Since that area is very badly irritated and inflamed, I definitely agree with getting into your vet ASAP. Since it's right on his neck, you can try inverting an Elizabethan (cone) collar so that the cone part covers the irritation and the neck park sits up closer around his ears, so that it doesn't rub against the irritated spot and protects it from further scratching. Keeping the area clean and dry can also help reduce any secondary infections that may take hold in the irritated skin. An over the counter allergy medication such as Benadryl can also help by reducing any irritation/itchiness, and may also have the added benefit of making him a little drowsy so he's less likely to scratch. However, getting into the vet like you planned is the best course of action. If there is a big wound opening up, it gets worse, it oozes debris, or Cooper seems in major distress, getting into your vet sooner or reaching out to an urgent care vet may be a good idea.

My young female started her heat about 22 days ago, she was flagging about 9 days ago. By this past weekend, the males were eating again and her vulva was shrinking back down, no more discharge and no more flagging. She was even starting to snap at them. Yesterday my husband was supposed to be watching the dogs and left them to use the restroom, he came out and my older intact male was tied with her briefly. What are the chances of pregnancy? This was the ONLY tie that occurred.

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question. There is a chance of pregnancy, but the best time for a dog is get is pregnant is between day 9-11 of their cycle. Given it's been 22 days, it makes it less likely, but there is still a chance. I'd wait 30 days, then take her into the vet to get blood drawn to check for the hormone relaxin, which occurs when a dog is pregnant. I hope this helps.

I have a very senior cat (19), who is in Stage 3 kidney disease. She also takes a thyroid pill. She has never been willing to eat a prescriptive diet, she loves regular canned food, but in her old age won't eat the same flavor two times in a row. She's doing well with poo, pee, engaging with us, grooming - she enjoys life. What can I do to help her gain some weight. She only weighs about 8.5 lbs now. Weight loss is very difficult to manage in a cat with advanced kidney disease especially if the cat will not eat the prescription diet. The weight loss is typically muscle wasting. The prescription diets are restrictive in phosphorus which is essential in keeping kidney damage to a minimum. These diets also have a reduced sodium content to prevent dehydration, are high in specific amino acids to promote muscle mass and contain other ingredients, like omega-3 fatty acids, that support kidney health. Being picky about the diet is common as they are often nauseous due to toxin build up in their blood from the kidneys not filtering properly. You should talk to your vet about using Cerenia or Zofran for this issue to see if it helps. She may also need an appetite stimulant drug either mirtazapine or Entyce. Please talk to your vet about these. The only way for her to gain weight is to eat better. I don't know if you are aware but there are many companies that make prescription kidney diets. If she won't eat one brand she may eat one of the others. I suggest you try different ones. If purchased from your vet, if your cat does not eat it, the pet food company will typically take the food back and refund your money so you are not out the money of trying the food. In my experience, cats tend to like the Royal Canin kidney prescription diets the best but Hill's, Purina and Blue Buffalo also have them. You can try this supplement to help her eliminate phosphorus absorption from her GI tract to help alleviate the strain on the kidneys especially if she will not eat the prescription diet. This would be an adjunct will is not specific for weight gain. Again, the only way to get her gain weight is to get her to eat more (manage nausea and give an appetite stimulant).
