I bought a baby crested gecko at Petco on Wednsday, and I just want to make sure his behavior is normal. He hasn't been moving around a whole lot during the day and night, favoring to hiding in his fake leafs near the ground. I keep his cage around 75 to 80 degrees. I expected him to be high energy. He perches on my finger and will move if I try to turn my hand where he is upside down, but otherwise prefers to remain relatively still. Should I be concerned? If so, how do I fix this problem?

Hello. While 75-80F is a good range for the warm end of the cage, it would be ideal to have temps from 68-75 at the cooler end so he can self regulate his temperature. If the enclosure is too small to allow such a temperature gradient, then you may find your gecko will become stressed from being either too hot or too cold, and then susceptible to infection. Look through the enclosure and over his body for signs of infection or illness. Count food items offered so you can be sure how much he eats. Also consider a red or blue bulb for night viewing. This may help you observe his nocturnal activity better. Regardless, a new pet exam by a veterinarian is always a good idea to ensure good health and proper husbandry. Good luck!

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. The end of the tail looks to be a healing injury to me. The tissue does not look necrotic (dead). Hi my dog Deogie has been biting and licking his paws and trying to literally pull off his toe nails like they itch or something and his paws are red and his nail bed is a light brown color. Can he have athletes foot? And can I use hydrocortisone cream or athletes foot spray? Please help it looks like it can be really annoying for my baby!!

Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Deogie. Poor guy sounds very uncomfortable! If he is biting and licking his paws a lot, that tells me he is quite itchy, and that is usually a sign of allergies. It's not a sign of a fungal infection, and it's not called athlete's foot in dogs, it's called ringworm. This is something that needs to be diagnosed by a vet in order for him to be treated correctly, and I would take him into a vet today or tomorrow. Until he sees a vet, put a cone on him to keep him from biting at his paws. You can buy one at a pet store if you don't have one at home already. I hope this helps!

Hi! I have two cats who I adopted together as kittens, who have ALWAYS peed outside the litterbox (poop inside), on any material on the floor, though we have 2 older cats who go in the boxes. On a whim, I bought weewee pads and placed them where the cats had been going on the floor, and I realized that they must have been fostered as babies with pads (grrrr). I would like to get some area rugs and want to know how to keep them off!

Substrate preference can be very difficult for cats! I would start by moving the pee pads into an empty litter box to get the kittens used to going in and out of it, and then gradually begin to add in a little litter over the pee pads, until they can be transitioned from it to the litter fully. You may also need to try a few litter types, such as paper or corn cob litter, that may be closer in substrate feel to the peed pads and may encourage them to use it. Daily scooping and making sure the other cats aren't bullying the kittens away from the box can also help reduce accidents. I would also keep any area rugs and the like away from the potty areas so they don't confuse the two. You can also use an enzymatic cleaner to help clean up any accidents and break down urine particles that may be encouraging them to keep using the spot.

My baby got small bump last week and she chewed it, so it looks like a patch. I lost my best friend, my baby by Mast cell tumor in 2021. I am paranoid seeing hairless red circle on doggies body. I made an appo with our Vet but it will be 2 weeks later, I am super worried day by day. Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concerns. Based on the photo you provided, this could be a number of things. Tornado is very young, so there is a chance that this could be something called a histiocytoma. This type of mass is commonly seen in younger animals and is non-cancerous that typically goes away on its own. Some cases need to be surgically removed if they are not resolving or if they are growing in size.The other possibility is that it is something cancerous. Mast cell tumor would certainly be on my list of rule outs. To be certain this is nothing to be concerned about, I would recommend that you take Tornado in to be seen by a veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. My kitten of a few months has an ear infection/inflamed ear. Her mother unfortunately ignored her ears when she was a baby, I use polysporin drops to help with her pain and ear wax. This time it seems to really bug her/cause her some pain & her skin around ear canal is more red/pink than the other ear. I'm looking for info on at home treatments or something I can get from a pet store. I live on disability in BC and am trying to avoid a hefty vet bill.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. The ear, honestly, to me does not look that bad from the photo. Of course I cannot see down into the ear canal or the ear drum without examining her in person with an otoscope so there may be something down there causing the issue. There is no way for me to tell from a photo. If she is really scratching at the ear or starts to scratch it when you touch the ear then chances are she has ear mites. People often mistake an ear mite issue with a bacterial/fungal infection but the treatments are very different. Ear mites are very common in kittens. ( https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/ear-mites-otodectes-in-cats-and-dogs ) The best treatment for ear mites is Revolution topical solution that you would put on like a flea/tick drops on the back of the neck. DO NOT put it in the ear. Typically two doses 3-4 weeks apart is enough to kill all the mites and correct the issues. I would try that before attempting to put medication inside the ear canal at this point. You will need to purchase it from a local vet. Over the counter "ear mite treatments" do not work. Sassy snuck into our dogs crate with the dog. I didn't see her until I couldn't find her to feed her in her crate. The other dog take apoquel 3.4 mg which was in its food. I found her in the other dogs bowl but I have no idea if she actually got the apoquel or if the other one got it. Sassy is just shy of 9 months. This just happened and no vets within a 1 hour drive are open. I'm checking on the er vets but have to check in and wait for permission to go. Can she survive this until tomorrow?

Apoquel has a fairly wide margin of safety in dosing. At worst, you may see some minor GI upset (vomiting, diarrhea) and maybe a slight decrease in appetite. Further treatment likely will not be needed unless symptoms persists for more than 24-48 hours.
