Hi I have been overfeeding my 12 week cockatiel a lot since I got him when he was 5 weeks. I overfed because he always had very good appetite and can take a lot of formula. However I'm still worried about his crop position. Dies it look overly stretched from the picture? (FYI, He is now 94 gram, compared to 80 gram when I got him. I just cut off all his formula today since he is old enough and worried about a potential crop problem developing.)

Hi and thank you for your question, The crop does look distended, especially if this is not right after a feeding. I don't recommend stopping the formula at once regardless of his age. You should reduce it gradually and only stop it once he is getting very little (5-10ml once daily) and is eating well on his own. Hopefully the crop will come down to a more normal size. Regards

Many antibiotics cause gastrointestinal issues in cats so you will need to call your vet and let them know what is going on. Most likely they will have you stop one or both of the antibiotics and prescribe something different. I would also suggest that you put him on a pre/probiotic while he is taking antibiotics and then continue for at least one week after the antibiotics have been stopped. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I'm sorry that Mango is having this issue. Yes, many different metals can cause toxicity in birds if ingested but the main ones of concern are lead and zinc. You will need to take Mango to an avian vet when they are open. The metal snap will need to be removed even if it is made of a non harmless metal like stainless steel. I suggest you go to a speciality center as they are more likely to have an endoscope which will be better than doing an open surgery for removal. Sometimes, depending on where the metal piece is located in the GI tract and the size of the snap, they can try removal via bulking agents fed orally instead of doing any invasive procedures. My dog, a 6 month old husky shepherd lab mix, ate a wooden knob off of my nightstand and I believe she chewed it and swallowed it. The screw fell back into the drawer itself (thank god) but I cannot locate the knob so I believe she ate it. She seems completely normal. No loss in appetite, normal behavior, no vomiting. Given that you think it may have been a day or two since she ate it, and because she is acting normally, I'd just keep an eye on her for now. If she starts vomiting, stops eating or has a loss of appetite, has diarrhea, blood in her poop, starts acting lethargic, and/or has any other concerning behavior, then I would take her into the vet right away. My dog had an anal gland that burst about 2-3 weeks ago. I took her to the vet and they drained it, I gave her a full round of antibiotics and pain medication and she wore a cone. It’s been almost 3 weeks now, the area is fully healed but each time I take the cone off, she licks random parts of her back and legs until they bleed. Can this be a lingering side effect from the meds she finished about 2 weeks ago? She has never done this until after this incident. Appetite and energy are normal.

That's not a typical side effect of giving an antibiotic, but it is possible that Brooke is still experiencing some pain related to the anal glands, and so she is licking to relieve it. It's also possible there is another issue, such as irritation on the legs, that are causing her to want to lick and chew. If you haven't already, I would schedule a recheck with your veterinarian to make sure the anal glands are healed up and to look for any other issues such as pain in the legs or around the anus, allergies, parasites, etc that may be causing her to lick. In the meantime, keeping the Elizabethan collar on may help. There are also no-lick wraps that can be placed on the legs that may help deter licking if there is no injury (once you've gotten the OK from your vet). Distraction through a puzzle or chew toy such as a Kong stuffed with treats or food may also help redirect this behavior into something more positive if it's stress or habit-related instead.

My cat started having diarrhea yesterday which most likely happened do to new cat food (which she has tried before&didn't have any issue). Today, I decided to give her her old food because she continues to have diarrhea(wet&runny) & scoots same as yesterday. There aren't any other symptoms like vomiting, only that she has a smaller appetite. Right after pooping today at night, I noticed she has blood around her anus, there isn't any blood on her poop tho. Is this urgent? Should we go to the vet?

Continuing diarrhea as well as scooting can cause the anus to be quite irritated and that may be the cause of the blood. She sounds pretty uncomfortable if she is scooting, and she is also showing she feels badly if her appetite is low. Given she has had diarrhea for over 24 hours, I do think seeing the vet is best. I do not think it's an emergency, so do not rush her to an ER vet tonight unless she stops eating, stops drinking, starts vomiting, and/or becomes very lethargic. Wait until the morning and if she is still having diarrhea then, I'd have her see the vet. I hope this helps!
