My birds have black stains around their nostrils. At times it is dark but at other times it is lighter but you can still see a color difference (greyish) but no longer black. Is this normal, because I know they sneeze and my mom forgets to tell me when she is cooking as we like to use garlic and spice. I will remember to take them upstairs now but is their anything else that may be a possible problem that needs attention? Hope to hear from you soon :))

Thanks for reaching out about Pekoe and Rico, and including photos. The staining around the nostrils (not noticed on the photos) could be the result of inhalation of dust, smoke or other particulate matter during cooking or other times. Bird's respiratory systems are very sensitive and inhalation of cooking smoke or other products can be potentially acutely fatal. Removing birds from the vicinity when cooking is important, especially if cooking with Teflon. Good luck.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I'm sorry that Mango is having this issue. Yes, many different metals can cause toxicity in birds if ingested but the main ones of concern are lead and zinc. You will need to take Mango to an avian vet when they are open. The metal snap will need to be removed even if it is made of a non harmless metal like stainless steel. I suggest you go to a speciality center as they are more likely to have an endoscope which will be better than doing an open surgery for removal. Sometimes, depending on where the metal piece is located in the GI tract and the size of the snap, they can try removal via bulking agents fed orally instead of doing any invasive procedures. Is it safe to give refrigerated amoxicillin to a 8 week old kitten (who was a stray) who has an upper respiratory infection? The kitten already has completed the 10 days of amoxicillin that the vet prescribed. However, he is still sneezing (no other symptoms lingering). Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. The answer is, it depends. We need more information. When was the refrigerated amoxicillin reconstituted? If it was longer than 14 days ago then it is no longer good. Is this formulation the same mg/ml as the one you got from the veterinarian? It is best for you to repost with that information so we can help you better. Honestly, though, if he is only sneezing, has no other symptoms and is eating/drinking well I would not bother with the antibiotics. Usually a URI is due to a mixed infection of bacteria and viruses - you cannot treat the viral portion with antibiotics and typically after 10 days the bacterial portion is under control. You are better off letting his own immune system kick in. I recommend you use something like Imuquin to help boost his immunity instead of using antibiotics. Hello. My door was open with a screen net and a raccoon came right up to the door making contact with my cat. Face to face. Is there a way for her to catch anything like that like rabies? Or does a cat have to get bitten for that? I immediately ran up and closed the door. The raccoon was coming to eat the bird seeds. Is there anything to worry about here?

Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco. Rabies is commonly spread through a bite wound. So there is very low risk of rabies transmission based on what you have described as making ocntact through a screen net. It isn't impossible because rabies is found in the saliva, just very unlikely in this scenario. Just keep an eye on your pet Kate for the next 7 days for any abnormal behavior (i.e. excessive vocalization, irrational behaivor, aggressive behavior, and if she is not up to date on her rabies vaccination, I would highly recommend getting her vaccinated asap. Some types of insulation, such as fiberglass, can be irritating to the respiratory system and cause problems. If he is having symptoms such as a cough and sneezing, I do think it's worth getting him checked out again by a vet, and that may include x-rays. I hope this helps!

Poor Piddles! It could be she has allergies and they are acting up, or it could be a sign of a respiratory infection. Without seeing her in person, I cannot say if she is ok or not. If she is otherwise acting normally, eating her food and drinking, and she has no other signs such as a runny nose, discharge from the eyes, a cough, and lethargy, you can watch her for now. To be safe, you could always bring her into a vet to get checked out. I hope this helps!
