My dog had blood work yesterday and they found his livee enzymes are high. They did an ultrasound and said the liver looks enlarged and not right. She referred me out to an internal medicine doctor for a more in depth ultrasound. I am going to do this. She also prescribed amoxicillin and demarin (spelling?) For liver. I am feeling so worried about this. Do you have any thoughts?

Hello and thank you for contacting PetCoach. Elevated liver enzymes and abnormal liver appearance on ultrasound scan does not necessary mean liver tumour or liver failure. Older dogs often have abnormal liver appearance, which is not related to any serious underlying problem. Liver enzymes level is a measure of 'damage' to liver cells but it is not directly related to prognosis. Again, older dogs often have mild elevation of liver enzymes I would think that the specialist will perform full abdominal scan and possibly take liver samples through a needle - this is commonly performed procedure in dogs with signs of liver disease. Based on the findings of the aspirate, the doctor will recommend further testing or prescribe treatment for Mars.

Hello, our consultation is still frozen for some reasons. I got a message from the tech guys that they are working on it. Regarding your question - airways problems are most likely not related to the liver issue, but please remember to mention about the chest congestion to the doctor that will be doing the scan. Once Mars has his liver scan, it will be possible to scan his lungs, or the doctor will recommend chest x-ray, if they feel it is necessary. I will reject the consultation you requested as you should not be charged for another consultation. If you have any more questions, you will be able to ask once our consultation has been fixed.
