My goldfish is very old and only has one eye (due to pop eye). His eye has filled up with blood today. I have done a water change, given him Myxzin but then have just done another water change in case it is oxygen deprivation. I am worried sick, what shall I do?

Hi there. Poor Tango! Sorry you are having this issue. With injuries such as this, myxazin is often added to the water as you already have. Water changes are usually recommended as well to keep opportunistic bacteria at bay-which you have also done. The only thing I will recommend to my clients that have done the former two is added aquarium salt at about 1 teaspoon per five gallons of water in your tank. Otherwise-you are doing everything you can in this scenario. I really hope Tango feels better soon.

My 3 month old lab puppy scratches all the time. I have been to the vet and he said mange the first time. Puppy pyoderma the second time and he is back to mange again. My dog is not losing his hair and my other dogs are not catching mange, if that is what he has. I have changed his food, wash his blankets in just hot water, given him antibiotics, steroids, Benadryl, 2 different internal flea and tick meds and he gets no relief. He gets fish oil, coconut oil, raw goats milk and he still itches.

The only way to definitively diagnose mange (Demodex) is by skin scrapings which should be repeated every 2-3 weeks during treatment until 2 negative skin scrapings are found. Make sure that the flea and tick medication prescribed will also treat mites (milbemycin or moxidectin) and keep in mind that the dosage frequency is different for mite treatment than it is for flea preventative. Treatment needs to continue for 1-2 months after there is a negative skin scraping. Steroids are usually contraindicated in treatment of Demodex. Demodex mites are not contagious to other animals so your other dogs may not be affected.

can you use a treatment for ich as a preventative medicine in new water before you add fish to it? if so which medicine?

The best way to make sure the new fishes are not infected is to place all new fishes in a quarantine tank for at least 2-3 weeks to make sure they are eating, free of disease, and are able to recuperate in a stress-free environment. No preventive treatment needed. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.

my dogs are on their 2nd day of raw meat diet (chicken feet) and I give Cholo 1,000mg fish oil every night for his arthritis. what bothers me is his poop, it's dry and crumbly. like this is fresh out of him. my other dog, Nice-Nice is eating the same thing (well, she gets to have the toes), but her poop is firm and normal. Cholo gets the harder and bigger part of the feet as Nice-Nice is having trouble eating the bigger part. they both get enough water so I doubt it's dehydration. thank you! <3

Give it a little longer, it's only been 2 days. his gastrointestinal system needs to adjust to this very different diet. too many bones in the raw diet could also be the cause, if you are feeding bones it might be a good idea to limit the amount.

My main coon 9 month old has had loose stools. Vet investigated for parasites, all clear. He's now on fish and grain free food. However he has developed scabs on his head and neck. He has been treated for flees and no evidence that he presently has them.

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Mםמאט regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.

Am I able to give my dog fish oil from Costco or is it better to stick with animal formulated fish oil? She gets Nordic naturals currently. (for pets)

I love Nordic Naturals and I always recommend using a veterinary product when available. They do tests to make sure you are giving the right amount for your dogs size. So while you can give fish oil from Costco I would stick to a veterinary formulation. Thanks for using Boop by Petco to help you care for Chloe.

my vet said I can give my dog who is recently suffering from joint pain human Glucosamine+Chondroitin capsules but she wasn't sure about how much dosage to prescribe. Cholo is around 24-25lbs and I just started giving him 1000mg fish oil once a day and started feeding him raw chicken feet 3-5 pieces a day. should I give him two capsules per day together with fish oil in one go? or would it be better to give 1 capsule in the morning and the other one at night with the fish oil? thank you so much!

There are many different recommended doses for glucosamine/chondroitin, but most veterinarians recommend between 15-30 mg/kg of the chondroitin component as a starting dose. This would be up to 327 mg, so you might want to give just one capsule per day. It should be fine to give with fish oil, although both supplements can potentially cause diarrhea so if you see any diarrhea you may want to ask your veterinarian about decreasing the dose or giving the supplements at different times.

I have a 4 year old bully female and here the past three days she has been using the bathroom on her bed which let me mind you we have had her for 3 years now and this has never happened . She is fully house trained and uses the bathroom outisde. Well i noticed a smell from this pee in my bedroom and on her bed such a foul/fish kind of smell and i was wondering what might that be ? and should i take her to the vet? I recently got a male back in November could this have something to do with him ?

In general any changes in urination should be evaluated by your vet. Specifically for your girl, we commonly associate a strong fish odor to the urine with certain bacterial urinary tract infections, so I would have your vet check a urine sample on her to assess for a urinary tract infection or any other abnormalities in her urine. I hope that helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hi I recently got six fish and four of them are good but two of them which are the same type of fish haven't eaten anything ever since I got them I don't know if it's the food. And one seems lost and keeps bumping into the tank and they usually stay in one place and one of its eyes are turning black. They are the black ones in the photos. Thank you

The fish pictured are incompatible in the same tank. Angelfish (black ones) are tropical fish and do best in temps between 73 F and 84 F. Goldfish (white and orange) are cold water fish thriving in temps between 65 F and 72 F. It also appears as if one of your angels has some damage to a tail fin. This is typically due to fin nipping by other fish. You will need to remove either the angels or the goldfish and place them in a different tank. Check the water chemistry for elevated levels of ammonia or nitrites. This can occur in an uncycled tank or a tank that is overstocked. Partial water changes (30-50%) daily can decrease toxin levels. Use only aged or conditioned water that is temperature matched to prevent stress or shock. Confirm your filter is rated for at least twice the water volume of the tank, especially for the goldfish.
