Nice looking turtle! Barry could have a small wound that is trying to heal, like an abscess. I would at this point just monitor the bump and make sure it isn't getting bigger or that more appear. I think there is a good chance it's going to disappear on it own.

Hello. If Scarlett has 2 lumps pretty much over each hip, & with Scarlett being a slightly older dog, then my guess is she has "love handles". If Scarlett is also a little overweight, the hips are a common place for some fat to accumulate. Rest assured that tumors rarely happen in the same area on both sides of the body, & since your vet is rather unconcerned, then it sounds like Scarlett is fine. If you are really concerned, you can ask your veterinarian to do a fine needle aspirate in which a very small needle is used to remove a drop or 2 of sample from under the lumps. Hi there! It's hard to tell what's going on exactly from the photo, however, if you've noticed a lump it's a good idea to monitor it for a few days for any signs of an issue or changes to it such as increased swelling, pain, oozing debris, or failing to heal. Lumps can be due to a number of things including scabs/abscesses from other cat scratches, cysts, blisters, allergic reactions, etc. Keeping the spot clean and dry and placing an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Squish as needed may also help it to heal. If the spot worsens, becomes very bothersome, or doesn't seem to be improving, a vet visit in person is best to figure out what exactly the bump is and so that treatment can be provided depending on its cause.

First of all, I'm so sorry for your loss. Saying goodbye to a friend is never easy, so I can understand Kalie's current depression. However, this type of loss and associated grief process won't cause a physical lump to occur. It's also difficult to determine if she's sleeping a bit more because of the lump or because of the loss of her buddy. Given the prominence of the lump, conditions like an abscess (infection), granuloma, or benign or malignant skin masses must be considered. Unfortunately, there really isn't a way to differentiate between these conditions at home. Since it's difficult to get her in the car, perhaps you could find a mobile vet in your area who is able to come to your home to examine Kalie. They'll need to start with a full physical exam, and will likely perform a fine needle aspirate on the lump. This is a simple procedure where a needle is inserted into the lump to try to remove either fluid and/or cells for microscopic examination. Once the type of lump is determined, your vet will be able to advise you as to whether or not she needs something as simple as a course of antibiotics or even surgery. Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Lily. Poor girl! Yes I would get those matts shaved out, they will be painful to her. I'd also recommend having her seen by a vet. She's stopped grooming herself for a reason, and it could be it's painful for her to groom. Arthritis is common in senior cats. A chronic illness, such as diabetes and kidney disease, could sap a cat's energy and lead them to not grooming. Both of those are common in senior cats. I recommend having her seen by a vet this week, and getting her a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis. I hope this helps!

My Shih Tzu havanese is 11 yrs diagnosed with cancer mams. She had surgery in October and it got worse. Recently she scratched the area which is under her right armpit and open up the lumps. Now they are weeping. My question is how do I stop the weeping and how do I stop her from scratching it.? I do keep her covered at all times except for when I'm cleaning the wounds. Please be advised that to prevent this from happening to future pets, they need to be spayed before their first heat cycle. The chance of getting mammary tumors is virtually zero when a female dog is spayed young. It is very difficult for me to tell the orientation of what is going on in this photo. I'm assuming the photo is of the abdomen since you said they are mammary tumors but again, it is hard to tell what is going on based on this one photo. You are not going to get these to clear up and will likely only get worse; they are malignant cancer. They will only stop weeping when she stops scratching them. All you can do is exactly what you are doing although I don't think you should blow dry them - it is very easy to burn the skin making it worse. Everything else you are doing is fine. I'm not sure what you are using to cover her but I suggest a recovery suit and to put a feminine maxi pad between the skin lesions and the suit to catch any discharge. This protective layer should stop her from traumatizing the area. You can also put a human baby sock on her back feet so it covers the nails so if she does scratch she cannot hurt the area. My dog had an anal gland that burst about 2-3 weeks ago. I took her to the vet and they drained it, I gave her a full round of antibiotics and pain medication and she wore a cone. It’s been almost 3 weeks now, the area is fully healed but each time I take the cone off, she licks random parts of her back and legs until they bleed. Can this be a lingering side effect from the meds she finished about 2 weeks ago? She has never done this until after this incident. Appetite and energy are normal.

That's not a typical side effect of giving an antibiotic, but it is possible that Brooke is still experiencing some pain related to the anal glands, and so she is licking to relieve it. It's also possible there is another issue, such as irritation on the legs, that are causing her to want to lick and chew. If you haven't already, I would schedule a recheck with your veterinarian to make sure the anal glands are healed up and to look for any other issues such as pain in the legs or around the anus, allergies, parasites, etc that may be causing her to lick. In the meantime, keeping the Elizabethan collar on may help. There are also no-lick wraps that can be placed on the legs that may help deter licking if there is no injury (once you've gotten the OK from your vet). Distraction through a puzzle or chew toy such as a Kong stuffed with treats or food may also help redirect this behavior into something more positive if it's stress or habit-related instead.
