Pixie is so cute! Yes, sometimes short-nosed dogs like Pixie need a surgery to widen their nostrils so they can breathe easier. Your veterinarian will be able to determine if this surgery is needed, and when to perform the surgery. Some vets like to wait until a dog is full grown, but it can be done at any age. Ouch! Any new or suddenly growing growth like this should be checked out by your vet in person ASAP. Allergies, infections, skin irritation from rubbing it on things, and some growths and tumors can all cause spots like that on the nose, and can also cause rapid changes and discoloration like this. Until you can get to your vet, I would place an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Amber and keep the spot clean and dry to help reduce any further irritation. It is also a good idea to monitor the size and shape of it and how rapidly it is changing as this can help your vet figure out what may be going on. Your vet will likely take a full history as well as a potential sample of the spot to see what cells are present and provide treatment as needed.

My cat has signs of gingivitis. Will it hurt her if I start to brush her teeth? She had a teeth cleaning with the vet last year, but her gums are already a little red and slightly inflamed again. I hate the idea of putting her under anaesthesia unnecessarily, so can I try to do something at home? I’ve tried gels and plaque off, neither seem to keep it at bay. Thank you for contacting Boop by Petco with your question about Cassie. I think it's a great idea for you to start brushing her teeth, and that can help with the gingivitis. Be sure to use a pet toothpaste, as human ones are toxic for cats. You can get a pet toothbrush and paste at a pet store. I'd brush her teeth three times a week. I hope this helps!

Ouch! Due to how inflamed that looks I would definitely schedule a vet visit ASAP. Sudden growths/irritations like that can be due to a number of things including bacterial infections, tumors, irritation from digging/rubbing at the spot too much, allergies, etc so it's good to see your vet. They'll likely want to take a sample of the area to determine what is going on and how best to treat it. In the meantime, it's a good idea to place an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Nova to keep her from rubbing at the spot, as well as keep the area clean and dry. If the area is rapidly growing in size, taking note of the size, color, shape changes, etc can help your vet better determine what is going on. If you are noticing any other symptoms (sneezing, fever, loss of appetite, etc) these are important to let your vet know as well.

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. There is no way for me to tell you if Iggy's "snoring" is a problem or not. I suggest you take a video of him breathing (making the noise) to show to your vet. After seeing that video and doing an examination on him they can give you more information as to whether or not this is a problem. All I can say without seeing him is that if this is a constant sound when he breathes all the time, he may have a polyp or a tumor in his nasal passages, sinus(es), nasopharynx, pharynx, larynx or the trachea. This noise is definitely something that needs to be addressed. I found my 6 yr old cat dead. He was laying in a room (in a spot he's never been before), on his side. Mouth and eyes open, his tongue was out a bit. He had a bit of blood around his mouth, not much and on the side of his face which was on the floor, had clear fluid smeared down his face. Hello and I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your kitty. It is so heart breaking to lose them. Without an autopsy, one can't be certain, but most often in a cat without any other clinical signs, it's usually a bad heart that will cause sudden death. One of the most most common heart diseases in cats is called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. It often has no symptoms. It is often not detectable on a physical exam. My cat has been having issues with his left eye for months- he keeps it shut and it was concluded by his vet to not be infected and to have nothing inside. she suggested removing a tooth that may have effected his eye and for a while he eye looked better but still a little closed. Recently again now the corner of the eye is irritated and swollen and he is keeping it shut. He also rubs the corner of his mouth on that side on things and gets cuts from irritating it. No vet knows what is wrong :(

Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I know that you are struggling to find out what is going on with Bean but there is not going to be much I can tell you without examining him myself. I suggest you take him to a veterinary ophthalmologist if your regular vet is unable to find the cause. Keeping the eye close indicates pain so you need to get this figured out as you cannot leave him in pain. There are MANY different things that can be going on here: scratched cornea, glaucoma, herpes keratitis, uveitis, abscess associated with a tooth, neoplasia (cancer), and those are just a few of the possibilities. He needs to have testing and having an eye specialist check him is going to be your best bet. I find these two near you.
