I have two comet goldfish. I realized that one of them was turning a brownish-black color. After a bit of research I realized that the level of ammonia was to blame and so I did a 100 % water change. After the water was clean I saw that my other fish has a white streak that runs across his lower half. From the side it looks flat but from about it looks a bit fuzzy. It might be fungus but I'm not entirely sure. Can you help yo identify what it is and how to get rid of it? Please and Thank You

If it is fuzzy, it is likely fungal. You can try with a commercial antifungal medication such as API Fungal Cure, methylene blue or Pimafix/Melafix. These can be purchased online or in the aquarium section of most pet stores. Read package directions carefully and remove the carbon insert from the filter before treatment if indicated. Plain aquarium salt (NOT table salt) can be used in conjunction with one of the above treatments to aid healing. Dissolve up to one tablespoon per gallon of water into the tank. Fungal infections can take up to two weeks to resolve with treatment. Maintain proper water parameters (0 ppm ammonia/nitrites, 40ppm or less nitrates and temp of 65 F to 72 F). If possible, remove the affected fish yo a hospital tank during treatment.

Yes, I see the two wounds, and they could be caused by her scratching at her ear. While that could be due to fleas, it may be she has an ear infection causing her to scratch at her ears. Continually scratching at them would cause the wounds to get bigger. This does need to be checked out by a vet, as if she does have an ear infection, it could be caused by ear mites, yeast, or bacteria. In addition, the ear drum needs to be visualized through an otoscope to make sure it's still intact before any medication is given. Ear problems can be considered an emergency as leaving them untreated can lead to hearing loss. Given that these wounds are getting bigger, I'd see if you can get her into her vet asap. My Mini Schnauzer Cooper has started scratchong excessively a few weeks ago. Hes always scratched a bit but never like this. Hos neck is raw. Ive tried some moisterizing lotion for dogs thinking it was dry skin. He doesnt have fleas. His diet is stable so i dont think its an allergy. Ive tried to redirect him but tonight he snuck off and ended up doing this. Ill be calling the vet tomorrow but it can take a week to get in there. What can i do in the interim?

Poor Cooper! It sounds like you're already on the right track for ruling out issues, however, environmental allergens can also flare up this time of year which may be causing the excessive itchiness. Since that area is very badly irritated and inflamed, I definitely agree with getting into your vet ASAP. Since it's right on his neck, you can try inverting an Elizabethan (cone) collar so that the cone part covers the irritation and the neck park sits up closer around his ears, so that it doesn't rub against the irritated spot and protects it from further scratching. Keeping the area clean and dry can also help reduce any secondary infections that may take hold in the irritated skin. An over the counter allergy medication such as Benadryl can also help by reducing any irritation/itchiness, and may also have the added benefit of making him a little drowsy so he's less likely to scratch. However, getting into the vet like you planned is the best course of action. If there is a big wound opening up, it gets worse, it oozes debris, or Cooper seems in major distress, getting into your vet sooner or reaching out to an urgent care vet may be a good idea.

Does my cat have ringworm

Hi, I would not say this looks like a typical ringworm lesion. The areas are normally hairless round areas but can also become more inflamed and crusty depending on the dermatophyte causing the problem. Hello, I had a mold problem in the apartment for the last 5 years on winters. I did clean the mold every time it shows and ventilate the room. I wonder if it can has any effect on my cat? Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. Mold can cause respiratory issues in cats long term however it is difficult to tell if it is effecting them until they start showing clinical signs. Depending on age and health condition, the signs could range from mild to severe. Some signs that cats may exhibit are as follows: Runny nose Itchy and runny eyes Skin infections Persistent scratching Coughs and wheezing sounds Nose/mouth bleeding Continuous mold exposure can cause seizures and tremors. Cats in particular will become agitated or anxious due to allergies. Both dogs and cats that have been exposed to mold are also known to shake their ears and heads. Some may also chew their paws, have chronic ear infections, foul odor of the skin and hair loss are other signs that may emerge after mold exposure. You may want to consider getting some HEPA filters in your home to help minimize exposure to both you and your cat. Hello! I wonder how can I wash my cat's catnip toys? Can I machine wash them woth a pet friendly detergent? Like "Seventh Generation"? I use it on her blankets.. but I wonder if I use it on her cantip toys. Some of them were exposed to mold, so I don't want to wash them with only water, and definately not throw away all of them... Thanks for visiting Boop by Petco! You can wash your pets toys in any detergent you want to. There are no stipulations to detergent. Especially if mold was on them. You definitely want to add some bleach to the wash to ensure it kills the mold. Follow the instructions on your machine to help prevent any kind of discoloration of the toys. If your pet has a known or suspected allergy, then I would use a hypoallergenic detergent or a baby detergent such as Deft detergent.
