Hi, I'm asking today because of my turtle a (red ear slider) I've had him for 3 years now and I noticed that he was making noises as a high pitched meow? As if a baby kitted it's weird because he was perfectly fine yesterday it's been an hour now and he's not moving or responsive I'm afraid he might be dead if so I'd just like to be sure that's all thank you.

The noise may be stress related or could indicate respiratory infection. The surest way to confirm either, or death, is to have him examined by your veterinarian or a vet experienced in treating reptiles. You can pick him up to see if he responds. Most turtles will withdraw into the shell or try to escape if handled. Check the ambient and water temps. Soak him in a shallow bowl of a warm 50/50 solution of water and unflavored PediaLyte. Increase Temps by about 5-10 degrees F to aid in recovery.

Sorry to hear Marley isn't doing so well with his ears. It is not possible to tell from tge picture tve exact nature of the irritation but if it is indeed infected (typically red, hot, painful and smelly), he will need prescription medication from his regular vet. In the meantime I recommend gently cleaning tge outer war with cotton wool and a pet safe ear cleaner to reduce the build up of wax/discharge

There seems to be two wounds underneath my cat’s ear. There is not one on the other side. Does it look like ringworm or caused by fleas? What can I use to help her? It was smaller a week ago.

Yes, I see the two wounds, and they could be caused by her scratching at her ear. While that could be due to fleas, it may be she has an ear infection causing her to scratch at her ears. Continually scratching at them would cause the wounds to get bigger. This does need to be checked out by a vet, as if she does have an ear infection, it could be caused by ear mites, yeast, or bacteria. In addition, the ear drum needs to be visualized through an otoscope to make sure it's still intact before any medication is given. Ear problems can be considered an emergency as leaving them untreated can lead to hearing loss. Given that these wounds are getting bigger, I'd see if you can get her into her vet asap. I was advised by my daughter's dog trainer to contact a vet about my Yorkie's anxiety. She is 7 yo and 12 lbs. She started off scared of some fireworks in the neighborhood. Yes medications can help with anxiety, but she would need to see a vet in person to get the medication. We cannot provide a prescription for it from the site without seeing her in person; it's illegal, and against the user terms of the site. I recommend contacting her vet to make her an appointment to discuss the use of medication. A thundershirt may also help in conjunction with medication. You can buy them online, I also recommend looking at one of those. A tip to keep in mind when she is afraid is not to console her. It's natural to want to do that, but it actually reinforces the behavior. By consoling her, you are telling her it's ok to act this way. I hope this helps!

Hello, A few days ago I noticed matted fur in my dog under her ear and at later inspection it must have been a scab. Her and our other dog often play rough so I'm wondering if something has caught her and because of where it is it isn't healing due to her scratching. I've placed an ecollar on her now and have been cleaning it, it bleeds very slightly at first when doing this. Could you advise if there is anything else I need to do. No vet appts until Wednesday, am I OK to monitor until then?

Ouch! That does look pretty irritated, so if it doesn't scab over or continues to look weepy, it's a good idea to have your vet take that look on Wednesday as it may need some anitbiotics. What you're doing at home currently is perfect! I'd continue to use the E-collar to prevent pawing at it, and keep the area clean and dry. You can use a clean compress to gently keep it clean so as to not cause more irritation by rubbing at it or accidentally bumping the scab as excessive cleaning may actually be slowing down the healing process. It should be fine to wait until Wednesday to have it looked at unless it massively swells up, becomes painful to the touch, or starts to ooze any cloudy or green discolored debris (all signs of infection).

Hello my cat is about 7 years old and I’ve noticed this bump on his outter ear for almost a year now it look like it started off as a scratch or bite I’m not sure because he used to be play fight with my sister cat not anymore but I’ve been so worried about it because it’s grown in the past year I don’t know if it’s a tumor or what it could possibly be and I don’t have the money to take him to the vet, has anyone seen anything like this before or know what it could possibly be ? That unfortunately should be checked out by a vet in person, especially if it's growing in size and looking more inflamed than usual, as this could indicate something such as an infection or growth that requires treatment. Typically, a vet will be able to take a sample of the area to determine the exact cells present and what treatment is needed. Until you can get to the vet, placing an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Sebastian may help keep him from rubbing or pawing at it to help it heal. Keeping the area clean and dry may also help.
