My beardies colours are fading a bit, from what they normally are. and he has been digging in his incloser a lot, I am wondering if maybe he is fading cuz of the dust from digging on his body making him look dull, or maybe he is going into shed? He is an adult ... I don’t know if adult bearded dragons shed at all. Is there anything I can do for his colours to come back? ( The photo is of what he normally looks like )

Yes, it sounds like Lightning could be in the process of shedding. Here is great article that should answer all of your questions about the process. http://pogopogona.com/caring-for-bearded-dragons/bearded-dragon-shedding Just be sure that you have all of his husbandry 100% correct (lighting, diet, supplements, humidity, temperature, etc) because that is the #1 reason bearded dragons have health issues. My Mini Schnauzer Cooper has started scratchong excessively a few weeks ago. Hes always scratched a bit but never like this. Hos neck is raw. Ive tried some moisterizing lotion for dogs thinking it was dry skin. He doesnt have fleas. His diet is stable so i dont think its an allergy. Ive tried to redirect him but tonight he snuck off and ended up doing this. Ill be calling the vet tomorrow but it can take a week to get in there. What can i do in the interim?

Poor Cooper! It sounds like you're already on the right track for ruling out issues, however, environmental allergens can also flare up this time of year which may be causing the excessive itchiness. Since that area is very badly irritated and inflamed, I definitely agree with getting into your vet ASAP. Since it's right on his neck, you can try inverting an Elizabethan (cone) collar so that the cone part covers the irritation and the neck park sits up closer around his ears, so that it doesn't rub against the irritated spot and protects it from further scratching. Keeping the area clean and dry can also help reduce any secondary infections that may take hold in the irritated skin. An over the counter allergy medication such as Benadryl can also help by reducing any irritation/itchiness, and may also have the added benefit of making him a little drowsy so he's less likely to scratch. However, getting into the vet like you planned is the best course of action. If there is a big wound opening up, it gets worse, it oozes debris, or Cooper seems in major distress, getting into your vet sooner or reaching out to an urgent care vet may be a good idea.

Hello and thank you for using Pet Coach. That area looks infected to me. That could be related to Loki licking and biting the area. Sometimes though there's a foreign object trapped under the skin like a grass seed or piece of wire. I recommend to have Loki examined in the next few days to have this addressed. In the meantime, there are some things you can do at home which may help. 1. Stop any licking (since this can make it worse) - Loki should wear an elizabethan collar at all times. - Remember that the collar must come out past his nose in order to be effective. 2. Next, wash the area once a day with either plain hand soap (like Dial) or a medicated pet shampoo. Rinse the area well and gently towel dry. -This will help to control the number of topical pathogens as well as remove oil and dead skin cells. 3. Lastly, apply a topical antibiotic twice a day to the red areas. Make sure the skin is dry before application. -Just a dab will do and rub it in well. Neosporin is fine to use. *wear gloves and wash your hands thoroughly afterwards when handling this wound. 4. Restrict his activity. Since it's on the paw, it can be traumatized by activity. So for now, I recommend minimal to no walks, no running or jumping. Avoid walking on rough surfaces (like dried grass). If the wound gets dirty, you can wash it. I do not recommend to bandage paws. They heal best when exposed to the air and bandaging often encourage infection in paw. I hope this helps and that Loki heals up quickly! Sincerely, Dr. Elizabeth

Hello my cat is about 7 years old and I’ve noticed this bump on his outter ear for almost a year now it look like it started off as a scratch or bite I’m not sure because he used to be play fight with my sister cat not anymore but I’ve been so worried about it because it’s grown in the past year I don’t know if it’s a tumor or what it could possibly be and I don’t have the money to take him to the vet, has anyone seen anything like this before or know what it could possibly be ? That unfortunately should be checked out by a vet in person, especially if it's growing in size and looking more inflamed than usual, as this could indicate something such as an infection or growth that requires treatment. Typically, a vet will be able to take a sample of the area to determine the exact cells present and what treatment is needed. Until you can get to the vet, placing an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Sebastian may help keep him from rubbing or pawing at it to help it heal. Keeping the area clean and dry may also help. Hello. I’m sure everyone has heard about the purina food. My cat has been eating fancy feast for a few years now. Since I heard the news I stopped feeding her it. She has no symptoms. Only thing is she’s lost around a pound since August and sleeps a bit more with me. Is this concerning? Should I bring her to the vet for a blood test? People that had problems said their pets were throwing up, having diahera etc. she didn’t have any of them. But I’m really freaked out over the whole situation.

If there are no abnormal values then at least you will have a baseline of Kate's normal values which can be helpful if there are any issues in the future. Remember, these reported problems with Purina pet foods are currently only allegations by pet owners. There is no scientific evidence that the food is what is making their pets sick. Vomiting and diarrhea are very non-specific symptoms of illness. The FDA is investigating so hopefully we will have more information soon. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

I found my 6 yr old cat dead. He was laying in a room (in a spot he's never been before), on his side. Mouth and eyes open, his tongue was out a bit. He had a bit of blood around his mouth, not much and on the side of his face which was on the floor, had clear fluid smeared down his face. The past few weeks he's had excessive dandruff and clumping of fur, which I could pull the clumps out and he'd hardly react really. Any ideas as to why my cat died? Heart problem? Kick?

Hello and I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your kitty. It is so heart breaking to lose them. Without an autopsy, one can't be certain, but most often in a cat without any other clinical signs, it's usually a bad heart that will cause sudden death. One of the most most common heart diseases in cats is called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. It often has no symptoms. It is often not detectable on a physical exam. Sometimes there will be fluid in the lungs from congestion in the lungs that can leak out after passing. I hope this helps to provide some closure and with time, I hope your heart heals.
