Ich, or white spot disease, can take about two weeks to treat. You can increase water temp gradually to 86F. This will speed up the ich lifecycle. Once the spots fall off your fish, vacuum the substrate thoroughly, clean plants or tank furniture and rinse the filter media (with tank water). You can use a commercial ich treatment or dissolve 1 teaspoon of aquarium salt (NOT table salt) per gallon of water into the tank. Either are effective when used in conjunction with a temp increase. Whichever method you choose, treat for about 5 days after the last symptoms resolve then gradually decrease water temp back to normal for goldfish. This would be between 65F and 72F.

Oh my goodness, he is the cutest boy! I can see why you say he's the best boy. It could be that he does have microphthalmia, that one eye is much smaller than the other. The condition itself isn't painful, but it can lead to things such as glaucoma, which is painful. Cataracts can also be another complication of this genetic condition. I would recommend having him seen by a vet yearly to make sure there aren't any complications developing such as cataracts or glaucoma, but that shouldn't stop you from adopting him. He would be very lucky to have you! I hope this helps!

Hello, my 22 lbs Boston Terrier recently defecated an odd black color. He eats a mixture of fresh and baked dog food and no supplements other than Ocu-Glow for his cataracts. He is 10 years old. He occasionally eats food off the floor but I have not noticed anything recent and he has NO change in behavior. Here is an attached picture. If you could please share your expert opinion on what the cause may be and if he needs immediate treatment, I would appreciate that.

Darker stools like this can be due to a number of things. If Milo recently ate something off the floor or had some minor digestive upset, it may cause a darkened stool. Eating a lot of leafy greens like spinach can also darken the stool. In some cases, dark or tarry stools can indicate issues such as GI bleeds in the stomach or intestines, or more severe intestinal irritation. If this has happened only once, I would continue to monitor Milo at home for any other signs of a problem such as a painful tummy, vomiting, not wanting to eat, etc. If you see those symptoms, the dark stools continue or worsen, or you notice anything else ongoing, then it's time to see your vet.

My dog a Shih Tzu cross, she is 12 years old. She is getting treatment for a suspected prolapsed disc. She was given half (4.5kg) doze of Metacam, 0.5 ml of Neurontin, 0.28 ml of Tramal. She is panting very heavily and finding it difficult to sleep. Her blood tests were clear. Is the heavy panting a cause for concern, I already took her to the vet this morning, I wanted to know whether she needs to go to emergency vet? The vet this morning said it would take 7 days of meds before another visit.

Heavy panting can be a sign of distress or pain. If Pixel was just at the vet this morning, it is possible she is still stressed out from the visit and travel, and may need an hour or two to help settle back down at home and let the pain medications begin working. I would monitor her for a bit to see if she settles in. If the heavy panting continues or worsens, she seems in severe pain, has blue or pale gums, or won't settle/seems very uncomfortable after a few hours, calling your vet to let them know what is going on, or seeking care from an urgent care vet may be best.

Hi! My 8yo pure Aussie bulldog has come up with these patches on her paws, above her eye, cheek and also she has been limping due to a old hip injury where she needed 2 screws and a small plate- 1 of these screws has gone through the bone to the other side and it’s causing a weeping growth on the inside of her hip underneath her. Hello, thank you for using Boop by Petco. I'm sorry to hear that Sassy is having this issue. This looks very serious. When there are metal implants involved you must take her to a vet. The implant needs to be removed (if possible) or the entire bone can become infected (osteomyelitis) causing severe issues that can be life threatening. At the very least she needs antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medications which cannot be purchased over the counter. This is serious and is not something you can treat at home. I do not know where in Australia you are located but I suggest you contact this organization that helps people with veterinary medical bills.
