Hi. My dog has an eye ulcer and the vet has given her chloramphenicol 1.0% w/w eye ointment. But this is for human conjunctivitis. and doesn't mention ulcers It is correct. Thank you

Yes it is correct and is a standard type of treatment for superficial corneal ulcers. Apply it 3-4 times daily and store it in the fridge. A buster collar would be helpful to avoid any scratching/rubbing.

My dog has swollen nipples and vag after being in heat.... She was around a unneautered male. Could she be pregnant?

Yes, it is very possible that she may be pregnant. However, occasionally dogs will experience a “false pregnancy “. Dogs will even lactate during this false pregnancy. If you do not want her to have puppies then I would recommend scheduling her for a spay as soon as possible. Otherwise a pregnancy is about 65 days. I would encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian to discuss pregnancy and perinatal care if she is pregnant. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

Why is my dog bleeding from her vagina 2 weeks after being spayed?

It is not normal for a dog to bleeding from her vagina after being spayed. She could have an infection of the uterine remnants, or she could have a bladder infection called cystitis that causes blood in urine and can look like vaginal discharge. I would take Eilie into the vet right away. The vet can do a physical exam, routine blood tests, a urinalysis, and possibly x-rays to diagnose what is causing her to bleed from her vagina. Once a cause is found, the vet can start treatment.

My dog eats his beds. How do I stop or limit this behavior?

There are a couple of approaches you can take to stop Bruno from eating his bed. One, you can supply him with more chew type toys. This will allow him to take out his chewing instincts safely, as well as preventing boredom. You can train him to not chew his bed. Every time Bruno starts doing this, you can get his attention by making a loud noise, and then giving him a chew toy to chew on instead. Praise him when he stops chewing on the bed and starts chewing on the toy so that he learns it's good for him to chew on the toy. There are chew deterrents you can spray on his bed, which you can get from a pet store. Finally, give him plenty of exercise so that when it's time to lie down on his bed, he will simply want to sleep.

i accidentally gave my 30 lb dog too much subcutaneous fluid. i meant to give her around 100 ml but i wasn't expecting the fluid to drip that fast and i gave her around 400 mls. she is 30 lbs, did i do more harm than good. she has parvo

That shouldn't hurt anything at all - in fact, 400 mL is within the range that I would normally give to a 30 pound dog at one time if needed :) She should urinate out any excess fluid without a problem. Just check to make sure that it's all (or mostly) been absorbed before you give her next scheduled dose of fluids, since it can be uncomfortable for her to have large amounts of fluid just sitting under her skin for long periods of time - if you need to, you can delay it by a few hours until the "bubble" is mostly gone.

Is liver spread in can is bad for my dog...

Processed food like canned liver should be avoided in dogs. It can have a high salt content and be very fatty which can cause gastrointestinal problems. If you want to give your dog a special treat, try something like freshly prepared meat, like chicken, in small amounts to prevent and stomach upset. I hope this helps. Thanks for using Boop by Petco. Best of luck.

My dog has these bumps on his belly. We were wondering if someone could tell us if it's an allergic reaction or a heat rash or etc. Thank you

It is unlikely to be a heat rash but an allergic reaction is a possibility. If there is pus inside the hunks than they are infected and need to checked by a vet. If they are just red and Do not bother Frank than a bath will help soothe his skin.

While at work my dog got into and ate roughly 2 lbs of uncooked white rice. Is this dangerous? How can i help him? He's not vomiting. Stomache looks a little ful, but not bloated. Can i give him water?

I would suggest fasting him for 12-24 hrs to allow him time to move the rice out of his system. You can still offer him water but don't force it. At the very least he may have some upset stomach issues (vomit and or diarrhea); however if he seems lethargic, not eating or excessive vomiting of food and water then it's best to have him seen by your local vet. Howver he likely will not have any major issues and will recover within a few days to a week. Best wishes with your pet and I hope everything works out well for him. Take care.

How long can a dog be on the prescription gabapentin

There is really no maximum time that a dog can be on this medication. Some older dogs are on it daily for many years at a time for arthritis or other chronic conditions - it's generally quite well-tolerated and does not tend to cause any health problems, even with long-term use.
