EMERGENCY! Pls help my Cockatiel is Panting. It starts panting after a very short flight (like 10 meters). The temperature here is 29 degrees C , 79% Humidity and elevation is 6.7m. One more detail : We clipped its wings today(its feathers didn't bleed or anything). Why is it panting and how to make it stop panting.

Panting can sometimes be a sign of heat exhaustion or extreme distress in birds. If moving your bird to a calm, quiet and cool cage does not resolve the panting, or your bird is having trouble breathing it is best to seek emergency medical care from a local veterinarian ASAP. Keeping him in a cool, dark, quiet room may help him recover, but if his symptoms don't improve care is needed.

Hi, two days ago we bought a 3 month old green cheek conure. His feather looks like strange now that we noticed it. They look black at the end of short feather. Please see the photo. We are the first time bird owner and not sure what is causing it. I wonder if this is a serious condition and what treatment needs to be done. Thank you

As far as I can see from the photo, the feathers look normal and healthy. Some color change and darkening of feathers is normal, and the feathers may continue to change somewhat until Pa Pa reaches maturity. Molts can also change feather color some as old feathers fall out and new ones come in. If he is otherwise healthy, normal, and active, I wouldn't be worried. If the feathers change rapidly, fall out, seem bothersome, or you notice any signs of illness in addition to the changes, scheduling a checkup with your local vet to rule out any health issues is always the best course of action.

My 12-week old golden doodle puppy June found and ate a dead baby bird, bones and all. It looked pretty old/decomposed. Should I be worried?

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This could be an issue as it may cause gastrointestinal upset and most importantly it can cause a gastrointestinal obstruction. I would recommend that you monitor her closely for signs of a gastrointestinal issue such as inappetence, vomiting and/or abdominal pain. If any of these are observed, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment then. Hoping for the best!

My bird is sleeping too much

Thanks for reaching out about your cockatiel. If it sleeping a lot, it is probably ill and needs to see a veterinarian ASAP. Excessive sleeping is to concern energy. There can be multiple reasons from infections to metabolic disease (liver, kidney). Providing heat support in the 80-85 F range can give some support but is not a treatment. See a veterinarian today. Good luck.

Why is my Cockatiel's nose red is it because of the heat?

This could be a sign of sinusitis, ie an infection of the sinuses caused by bacteria, a virus or a fungus. In countries with low humidity, this could also be a cause, however "heat" alone is not one. Some cockatiels also play with their nostrils and pick on them with their feet, This can also cause bloody discharge. However I do strongly suggest you take Rio to a veterinary doctor for an exam as a possible infection will need treatment. Here is a list of Avian vets in Chennai: https://www.lybrate.com/chennai/doctors-for-treatments-for-birds You can also take him to the veterinary college hospital: http://www.tanuvas.tn.nic.in/hospital_mvc.html

Is there anything I should do for a zebra finch dying, I believe from old sge?

If the birds are passing from old age, there isn't much that can be done other than giving them a happy life. If you suspect there may be an illness causing it, then removing sick birds and having them examined by a vet is best, along with keeping them warm, eating, and drinking. Most finches live about 5 years, however this can vary depending on the individual.

Indian ringneck parrot is eating less comparatively. He is sleeping continuously. Not making any noise too. What can be the reason?

Unfortunately, loss of appetite and lethargy are both very vague, general signs of illness. Issues such as infections, parasites, illness, nutritional issues, etc can all be potential causes. It would be best to keep Kiwi in a warm hospital cage with easy access to food and water to help him remain comfortable, and to schedule a vet visit in person if his symptoms continue so that the causes can be narrowed down and treated.

My Indian Ringneck parrot named Tika had been suffering from a sore/wound that leads to infection for 3 months.I visited to many veterinary surgents & I applied many medicines but the infection had not recovered yet fully.1 month ago I went to a veterinary surgent and he gave me some vitamins and skin ointments.I am now applying it.Now see the picture and tell me that is my bird on the way of recovery or not?

I am sorry to hear about your bird! It is difficult to fully evaluate a wound from a photo. From the photo it looks like there could be some areas of black skin. If this is the case and the skin itself is black, we would be concerned this tissue has become devitalized and is dead, and needs to be surgically removed/debrided. If the black area is just scabbing over the wound, then I would continue with your current treatments, but I would have expected the wound to be healed after several months unless it was very deep within the tissues. Your vet may also need to do a culture of the wound if it is still not healing to see what bacteria is growing and if it requires a different antibiotic. Best of luck to you and Tika.

Hi, I have a 2 week old cockatiel and he seems fine. I'm just worried about one thing. His crop won't fully empty and theres always a little bump even after 11 hours of not feeding. The bump is not hard or doughy. It's soft when you touch it. Sometimes I can see muscle contractions. Best of wishes.

Odo is gorgeous!! I am not overly concerned about this as there is a bit of spare tissue to allow the crop to distend so I think all this is is the extra tissue lying when the crop is empty. As long as it is not getting impacted with fluid or food and Odo s in good form I wouldn't worry about it.
